“Even when the bombs stop, the pain continues.” - Bana al-Abed

Today, on World Children’s Day, we highlight the voice of Bana al-Abed, the 2025 International Children’s Peace Prize laureate, whose message to children living in war is a reminder of the urgent realities millions face every day.

World Children’s Day marks the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a moment to reflect on the promise the world made to every child. And Bana’s courage in speaking about the lives of children in conflict brings that promise into focus, reminding us why our work cannot slow down.

Through our advocacy, our projects and our annual State of Children’s Rights and Business assessment, we push the private sector to take responsibility for children’s rights and to strengthen their impact across operations and value chains.

🌎 Meet Aeshnina “Nina” Aqilani: a 17-year-old changemaker from Indonesia and one of this year’s three International Children’s Peace Prize finalists!

Nina is a passionate youth climate activist fighting plastic pollution. At just 12, she uncovered how Western nations were exporting plastic waste, disguised as paper, to Indonesia. Her fearless advocacy, from writing world leaders to speaking at COP26, the Plastic Health Summit, and meeting global figures like Angela Merkel, has sparked vital conversations and driven real policy change.

As founder of River Warriors, Nina leads community cleanups, builds educational youth programs and runs a museum for children to learn about the dangers of plastic. Her movement has influenced international policies like the EU “Green Deal” and empowers youth across Indonesia to stand up for their planet.

Nina’s message to the world: “𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴. 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵. 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳, 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴. 𝘌𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘌𝘳𝘢.”

As co-hosts of the 21st edition of the International Children’s Peace Prize, together with KidsRights, we are so proud to highlight the efforts of the three top finalists. Learn more about the 2025 International Children’s Peace Prize on our website.

The State of Children’s Rights and Business 2025 has been launched 💥

This year, the world’s most comprehensive assessment of how major companies address their impacts on children evaluated 1,806 companies across eight sectors and 33 industries, revealing cautious optimism: for the first time in years, the global average score has risen, signalling a shift from promises to measurable progress.

Highlights from this year’s findings:
✔️ LATAM and MENA regions are closing the gap with traditional leaders, driven by regulation, consumer awareness and digital acceleration.
✔️ Europe’s progress is plateauing, pointing to a “glass ceiling” of compliance that will require renewed innovation.
✔️ Technology & Telecommunications lead all sectors (6.5/10), setting new standards for child protection and digital responsibility.
✔️ Leadership matters - companies that elevated children’s rights to a board-level priority improved three times faster than others.

📣 📣
Introducing Listen Up! – an initiative to amplify youth voices in digital wellbeing.

At Global Child Forum, we believe children’s rights don’t stop at the digital door. That’s why we’re proud to launch Listen Up!, in collaboration with Telia Sverige, Tele2 Sverige, Orange and Vodafone. Our goal is to ensure young people shape the online spaces they use every day.

Children are the most active digital users, yet they are rarely consulted about matters that directly affect them. Their insights are key to building safer, more empowering online experiences. This project goes beyond mitigating risk; it’s about using young people's insights to drive meaningful innovation in the digital world they navigate daily.

🤝 Join us!
With initial partnerships already established with leading telecom operators, and with the support of the Prince Carl Philip’s and Princessa Sofia’s Foundation (Prins Carl Philips och Prinsessan Sofias stiftelse) we invite telecoms, tech companies, and digital leaders to partner in this critical work.
Together, we can:
✔ Design with youth, not just for them
✔ Strengthen compliance & ethical innovation
✔ Lead the industry in child-centred digital wellbeing

Reach out to Filippa Bergin, Head of Strategy, Impact and Growth, for more information!
