New Publication on the Malian Crisis and Transition

We have the immense pleasure to announce the publication of collective, engaged research entitled "Résistance, alternance, souveraineté: Une recherche engagée sur la crise et la transition au " (eds) S. Hagberg, B. Coulibaly, Y.F. Koné and N. Traoré, Uppsala Papers in Africa Studies 8, 2024.

The study proposes a political ethnography on the popular mobilization that led to fall of late President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta in 2020. It offers a fine-grained, and detailed analysis of the different movements and factions that were key to the mobilization, before the military take-over on 18 August 2020.

Engaged Research on Internally Displaced Persons ( ) in Burkina Faso!

The Laboratoire d'Anthropologie Comparative, Engagée et Transnationale (LACET, https://www.lacet.org/) has the pleasure to announce the publication of Uppsala Papers in Africa Studies 9 (UPAS #9), entitled "Réfugié en son propre pays," focusing on displaced persons in , . The study is coordinated by Alice Degorce, Ludovic Kibora, and Maud Saint-Lary. Uppsala Forum for Africa Studies Sten Hagberg has written the preface of this important study.

ABSTRACT
Cette étude sur les personnes déplacées internes au Burkina Faso est le fruit d’une enquête collective menée fin 2021 à Ouagadougou par une équipe d’anthropologues et de géographes burkinabè et français. Depuis 2018, le nombre de personnes contraintes de quitter leur village suite à des attaques d’une extrême violence est en constante augmentation. Ce livre rend compte des conditions de départ, de déplacement et d’arrivée des déplacés internes qui ont choisi de s’installer dans la ville de Ouagadougou. Il restitue leurs logiques d’insertion économique et sociale ainsi que les enjeux liés à la reconnaissance officielle de leur statut. En s’appuyant sur leurs récits et expériences vécues, cette recherche contribue à documenter la situation actuelle de la zone sahélienne.
