Today, Sweden’s PM & FM marked another anniversary with statements. Both have previously raised Gui’s case with China. But words do not free prisoners. Action does.

Depuis un quart de siècle, le journaliste suédo-érythréen est détenu arbitrairement en Érythrée, privé de sa famille et coupé du monde. Son emprisonnement est absurde, scandaleux, indéfendable, cruel, illégal et entièrement évitable.

Aujourd’hui, alors que nous marquons 25 ans de détention, notre coalition appelle les dirigeants suédois et européens à faire preuve du leadership que cette affaire exige.

September 23 marks 25 years since Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak was forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained by Eritrean authorities. Arrested alongside several fellow journalists in September 2001, Mr. Isaak and his colleagues are now the world’s longest-detained journalists.

🚨 25 ans de détention arbitraire : un appel au leadership

Aujourd’hui marque 25 ans depuis l’arrestation de Isaak, journaliste suédo-érythréen et citoyen suédois, en Érythrée. Depuis, il a disparu dans une détention illimitée, sans inculpation ni procès. Il est privé de tout contact avec sa famille, de protections juridiques et des garanties humanitaires les plus élémentaires. Ses enfants ont passé un quart de siècle sans leur père.

La coalition internationale dirigée par le Centre Raoul Wallenberg pour les droits de la personne appelle les dirigeants suédois, européens et internationaux à agir dès maintenant.

Nous demandons :

🚨 25 Years of Arbitrary Detention: A Call for Leadership

Today marks 25 years since , a Swedish-Eritrean journalist and Swedish citizen, was arrested in Eritrea and disappeared into indefinite detention without charge or trial. He has been denied contact with his family, legal protections, and basic humanitarian safeguards. His children have spent a quarter century without their father.

The international coalition led by the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights is calling on Swedish, EU, and international leaders to act now.

We demand:

✅ Proof of Life
✅ Consular Access
✅ Independent Medical Care
✅ Immediate Release and Transfer to Sweden
To the governments of Sweden, and the European Union, and democratic partners worldwide: silence is no longer an option.

The response:
Statements were issued. Calls were made. Demands were put forth.
And Eritrea ignored all of them!
It cost Eritrea nothing to imprison a prominent Swedish journalist. And 25 years later, it still pays no price for keeping Dawit forcibly disappeared!

A quarter of a century has passed.
How much longer will Sweden & the EU allow this to continue?
