Reflections from Life after the PhD: career opportunities in brain data science

Our Professional Development Workshop at SfN 2025 brought together a room full of early-career neuroscientists eager to explore what their futures could look like beyond academia. The session highlighted how skills in neuroscience, data analysis, and critical thinking open doors to exciting roles across industry, technology, foundations, and policy.

On 22 October 2025, the INCF community met for an open Town Hall to discuss where neuroscience is headed and how INCF can lead.

Our new mission
“To transform neuroscience into an integrated, collaborative ecosystem by connecting and coordinating a global network of research institutions, industry, funders, policy makers, and publishers to drive science forward.”

Building Bridges in Neuroscience: Gaps, Challenges, and Opportunities in Research Infrastructure

As part of the upcoming Joint INCF–EBRAINS Day at the EBRAINS Summit 2025 (8 - 11 December 2025), international neuroscience infrastructure leaders will come together to explore how collaboration can strengthen and expand the global research ecosystem.

This special session will focus on three key themes: Gaps, Challenges, and Opportunities–highlighting ways to align data standards, improve interoperability, and foster sustainable, open science practices.
Gaps Theme: moderated by JB Poline (NeuroBagel), with insights from Brain/MINDS, Austrian NeuroCloud, and BrainLife
Challenges Theme: moderated by Maryann Martone (SPARC), featuring MIP, DANDI Archive, and G-Node

The INCF is inviting the neuroscience and broader biomedical community to review and provide feedback on Research Resource Identifiers (RRIDs), which have been submitted to INCF for endorsement as a standard.

🧠 Why RRIDs matter:
RRIDs are Persistent Unique Identifiers that help researchers accurately cite key resources—such as antibodies, model organisms, and software projects—in the biomedical literature. By making research methods more transparent and reproducible, RRIDs strengthen the foundation of trustworthy science.

The neuroscience community continues to embrace openness and collaboration, and now the INCF Workshop on FAIR Neuroscience is available online for everyone to explore!

Hosted together with the Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC) and EBRAINS Research Infrastructure, this workshop brought together neuroscientists, data scientists, and students to explore how to manage, share, and analyze data using EBRAINS tools and services.
