Spårvagnsstäderna arbetar för att det ska bli lättare att bygga spårvägar. Organisationen förmedlar kunskap om spårväg och stimulerar samarbete om utbyggnader. Medlemmar är kommuner och regionala kollektivtrafikmyndigheter. Föreningen välkomnar även företag och intresseorganisationer som associerade medlemmar. Under 2000- talet har intresset för spårvägar vuxit i flera svenska kommuner. Urbaniseri

ngen, klimat- och miljöfrågor, tillgänglighetsfrågor och behov av ökad kapacitet i kollektivtrafiken har bidragit till att vända den nedläggningstrend som varit rådande sedan mitten av 1900-talet. Trendbrottet har skapat ett stort tryck på att snabbt skapa fungerande strukturer som kan hantera en utbyggnad av spårvägar. Regelverket är inte anpassat, finansieringsmodellerna fungerar dåligt, erfarenheten av spårväg är begränsad och ett samarbete är nödvändigt. Våren 2009 startades ett nätverk för att organisera samarbetet mellan inblandade aktörer. Nätverket blev en förening och den 18 september 2009 bildades Spårvagnsstäderna vid ett möte på Landstingshuset i Stockholm. En styrelse tillsattes med representanter för Sveriges största kommuner och regionala kollektivtrafikmyndigheter. Även företag och intresseorganisationer är välkomna att delta i föreningens arbete. Verksamheten finansieras av medlemsavgifter.

Spårvagnsstäderna is evolving.

As part of this, we’ve introduced a new visual identity, including a new logo. It reflects our continued focus on collaboration, knowledge-sharing, inclusion, and diversity.

We are also introducing five colour variations of the logo, symbolising Sweden’s soon-to-be five tramway cities: Gothenburg, Lund, Norrköping, Stockholm, and Uppsala. Uppsala’s tramway is planned to begin service in 2029.

You will start seeing the new design across our channels and at Spårvägsforum in Gothenburg on 5–6 May.

Vilken start på vårt nätverksår.

Idag samlades vi för vår första nätverksträff inom Trafik och fordon hos InTransit Mobility Engineering Mobility Engineering.

Vi diskuterade hur spårvägen kan stärkas som transportval och berörde fordonens tekniska system, kompetensförsörjning, arbetsvillkor och behovet av robust trafikplanering. Tack till alla som deltog och delade kunskap och erfarenheter. Tack till InTransit Mobility Engineering för att ni tog emot oss och stod värd för träffen.

Nästa träff hålls hos Trivector Mobility ni i Göteborg. Spårvagnsstäderna bjuder på lunch och fika.

We are happy to share the very first speaker announcement for Tram Forum / Spårvägsforum Spring 2026, taking place at Clarion Hotel The Pier in Gothenburg, 5–6 May.

Our first speaker is Marco Te Brömmelstroet from the Lab of Thought.

Marco works on understanding the role of taken-for-granted worldviews and narratives in shaping our mobility systems and streets of the past, present and futures. With the Lab of Thought he actively challenges those narratives, develops new ones through unsolicited provocations.

In his talk, he will explore how language is the vital foundation for our understanding (and shaping) of the mobility system and our streets. Covering philosophy, the history of traffic engineering, a magical trick and a song he will offer the participants a way to unlock their full potential in playing a role in the mobility transition.

Idag 12/12 gratulerar vi Göteborg och Lindholmen till invigningen av spårvägslinje 12, en ny 2,8 km lång sträcka mellan Frihamnen och Lindholmen med tre nya hållplatser: Jubileumsparken, Pumpgatan och Lindholmen. Projektet har hållit tidplan och budget och finansieras genom Sverigeförhandlingen.

Vid invigningen medverkade representanter från Västra Götalandsregionen, Västtrafik och Göteborgs Stad, bland annat Helen Eliasson (ordförande för regionstyrelsen i Västra Götalandsregionen) och Aslan Akbas (ordförande i kommunfullmäktige, Göteborgs Stad), Roger Vahnberg (vice vd, Västtrafik), Mette Ramquist (kommunikationschef, Västtrafik), Martin Stenfeldt (programledare, Exploateringsförvaltningen) och Peter Wandinng (konferencier).

Today, 12 December, we congratulate Gothenburg and Lindholmen on the inauguration of tram line 12, a new 2.8-kilometre extension between Frihamnen and Lindholmen with three new stops: Jubileumsparken, Pumpgatan and Lindholmen. The project has been completed on schedule and within budget, and is financed through the national Sverigeförhandlingen agreement.

At the inauguration, representatives from Västra Götaland Region (VGR), Västtrafik and the City of Gothenburg participated, including Helén Eliasson (Chair of the Regional Executive Board, Västra Götaland Region) and Aslan Akbas (Chair of the City Council, City of Gothenburg), together with Roger Vahnberg (Deputy CEO, Västtrafik), Mette Ramquist (Head of Communications, Västtrafik), Martin Stenfeldt (Programme Leader, Exploateringsförvaltningen) and Peter Wannding (Master of Ceremony).

Looking back at Spårvägsforum and all the moments captured over two intense days: presentations and panel discussions, coffee breaks and side conversations, the bus tour, the dinner, and all the small in-between moments.

Thank you to everyone who joined, contributed and shared your perspectives on how light rail can support more sustainable and resilient cities. I’m already looking forward to the next edition.

This autumn, Tram Forum brought people together in Uppsala’s impressive City Council chamber to discuss how light rail can support resilient cities.

Day 1 began with opening remarks from Erik Pelling, Mayor of Uppsala, then a look at Uppsala’s tramway project with Karin Svingby (Region Uppsala). We explored collaboration in delivery with Roger Gustafsson (Uppsala Municipality) and Victor Tanndal (Nyab/Azvi), heard Annarella Löfblad (Swedish Public Transport Association) on public transport in times of crisis, and discussed resilience with Jenny Lundström (Region Uppsala), Alexander Ståhle (Spacescape) and Lauri Räty (Turku Tramway Ltd). Alexander Ståhle returned with Future Smart Transit Streets, followed by Lars Strömgren, Vice Mayor for Transport in Stockholm, and Jan Gutovský (Škoda) on modernising Göteborg’s M31 trams.

Day 2 brought Nordic perspectives and hands-on examples: Magnus Kusoffsky (Ramboll) on connecting the tramway city with single-track Lidingöbanan, Lauri Räty on planning Turku’s tramway, and a study visit along Uppsala’s future route led by Mario Rivera.
The afternoon turned to systems and innovation with Michael Rüffer (Stadler Signalling) on intelligent solutions for future light rail, followed by Aaron Swaffer (Pantograf) on thoughtful TOD through authentic architecture, and finally Piotr Wronski (MEDCOM) addressing SiC-enabled energy efficiency.

Grateful to the City of Uppsala for hosting us in such an inspiring setting, and to every speaker and participant who made the programme inspiring.

On Tuesday we will gather for a networking dinner at Linnéträdgården in Uppsala, Sweden’s oldest botanical garden, originally founded in 1655 as the university’s first botanical garden. It is autumn and quite cold, so the garden is in its winter rest and we will unfortunately not be able to enjoy the greenery outside. Instead, we will stay warm indoors and enjoy an evening with musical entertainment from the Värmlands Nations Kör, one of Uppsala’s long-standing student choirs, together with a delicious three-course dinner prepared by Hambergs Catering AB.

There will also be room for speeches during the dinner, so you are very welcome to start thinking already now about whether you would like to say a few words and what you might want to share.

Before the dinner, during the drop-in mingle, you will also find a tram bingo on site that you can use as an easy conversation starter to meet new people and network with other participants.

On Tuesday, Spårvägsforum in Uppsala will be opened by Erik Pelling, Mayor of Uppsala and Chair of the Municipal Executive Board. He will welcome participants to Uppsala and briefly introduce how the future tramway and the four-track railway agreement are linked to new housing, increased rail capacity and long-term sustainable mobility for the city and the region.

On Wednesday, Magnus Kusoffsky from Ramboll will present “Spårväg City/Lidingöbanan in Stockholm – Connecting a City Tramway with a Suburban Single-Track Railway”: Spårväg City aims to link the heritage tram Djurgårdslinjen with the mainly single-track suburban Lidingöbanan via the new district Norra Djurgårdsstaden. Integrating a tramway influenced by road traffic with a single-track railway creates operational challenges. Magnus Kusoffsky presents studies for Region Stockholm, including Ramböll’s combined Vissim and OpenTrack simulations used to identify necessary double-track sections, and also describes the project’s current status.

On Tuesday, Jenny Lundström (Region Uppsala), Alexander Ståhle (Spacescape), and Lauri Räty (Turku Tramway Ltd) will join a panel discussion on “Building Resilient Transport Systems”.

Bringing perspectives from politics, urban planning and tramway design, they will discuss how regions and cities can make public transport both reliable in everyday life and robust in the face of disruptions, and how new tramway investments can also strengthen social equity and urban quality.
