𝐄𝐀𝐆𝐱𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

In 2026, EAGxNordics returns to Stockholm, convening hundreds of people working on practical ways to do more good: from global health to catastrophic-risk reduction, animal welfare, and policy-relevant research. EAGxNordics is for people who want meaningful conversations to become collaborations and concrete results. Expect a professional, purpose-built networking experience designed to spark progress and measurable impact.

Recent editions rotated across the region, with Copenhagen hosting in 2024 and Oslo in 2025, and saw strong participation from Nordic and Baltic communities. Returning to Stockholm builds on that momentum and earlier editions in the city.

Updates to follow, stay tuned.

To make the weekend work, we’re hiring a lean core team across Production, Content, Admissions/Volunteers, and Comms (Team Lead included). You’ll own clear outcomes, collaborate closely, and help set a high operational bar.

07/08/2025

On August 6 and 9, 1945, the world witnessed the devastating power of nuclear weapons. The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed over 100,000 civilians instantly and left lasting trauma on generations of survivors — hibakusha.

Now, 80 years later, we find ourselves in what some describe as a “third nuclear age” — one marked by rising geopolitical tensions, weakened arms control agreements, and a resurgence in explicit nuclear threats. The moral taboo that has helped deter nuclear use for decades may be eroding just as the voices of the hibakusha grow quieter.

Eight decades later, the world faces a different (but equally unsettling) nuclear landscape:

☢️ Nine states now control an estimated 12 241 warheads. Roughly 9 600 sit in military stockpiles, and about 2 100 remain on high alert, ready to launch within minutes.

🛡️ Arsenals are growing again. After 30 years of decline, every nuclear-armed country is modernising or expanding its forces. China is expected to double its deployed missiles within the decade, while Russia and the United States still hold almost 90 % of all warheads.

💶 Spending hit a record $100 billion in 2024 (that’s about $190 000 every minute) despite urgent global needs elsewhere.

⚠️ Arms-control guardrails are eroding. Most Cold War–era treaties are gone. New START, the last major pact still standing, will expire in February 2026, following Russia’s withdrawal from the INF Treaty on August 4, just two days before the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.

These trends deserve careful attention. Even a “limited” exchange could trigger global food shocks and economic collapse; a large-scale war could foreclose humanity’s future altogether. Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki is not only about honouring the dead. It is a prompt to uphold the living, and the generations yet to be born.
