Call for Trainers: Membership Training – Warsaw, 9–10 December 2026

Do you know membership work inside out – how people become members, and the many roles they play in building organisations and movements? Are you committed to Green values and a fairer, healthier world for all?

We’re looking for trainers and facilitators for a two-day membership training in Warsaw, just before the European Greens Congress. Participants are Green parties and network organisations from across Europe and Eastern Africa. Together they’ll map their engagement ecosystems, define what membership means for them, and leave with a realistic one-year action plan.

You might be a party organiser who has built or reformed membership systems, a facilitator of participatory methods, or someone bringing engagement craft from movements, unions, NGOs or campaigns.

We offer:
🌱 A briefing on the participating organisations, and the chance to shape the training with fellow experts
🌱 A trainer fee, plus travel and accommodation in Warsaw
🌱 Easy to combine with the Congress (11–13 December)

Bernard William grew up as one of five siblings, raised by a single mother in a community where most families struggled to get by. Around him, many young people complained about the problems, but few actually dared to act.

So he did.

"We say we need good leaders, but people are afraid. So I just took that bold step and I said I want to be the champion of this community."

Today, Bernard is Co-Secretary-General of the United Green Movement’s (UGM) Mombasa branch and is running for Senator in Kenya’s 2027 elections. And when people call young people the leaders of tomorrow, he disagrees: "I believe that youth are leaders of now."

🌱 What does the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) mean for the Western Balkans?

Back in May, the Balkan Green Policy Lab brought together Green parties, Members of the European Parliament and energy experts in Sarajevo for a day of panels and workshops on the green transition and the region’s CBAM readiness.

Here’s what stood out:

🔹 The green transition isn’t going away. Clean energy keeps moving forward despite headwinds in Europe – good news for the Western Balkans too, given the health and environmental costs of coal dependency.

🔹 Early movers benefit. Since January 2026, the EU has put a price on carbon-heavy imports – meaning it now costs more to sell goods like steel, cement or electricity into the EU if they’re high-emission. Companies that cut emissions early are proving it pays off, and Serbia’s new carbon tax is a sign that the region is starting to respond.

🔹 Clear, fair rules beat waiting around. The fastest way forward is consistent, transparent implementation, paired with regional cooperation.

👉 Bottom line: CBAM can be a chance for the Western Balkans to lead.

Pljevlja's coal plant makes a third of Montenegro's electricity, but the town is shrinking and air pollution remains a serious health concern. So, how do you move on from coal without leaving people behind? 🌱

In a new article for the SEER Journal (European Trade Union Institute - ETUI), Nataša Kovačević looks at what Montenegro can learn from transition communities across the western Balkans, and why a just transition has to be democratic, inclusive and shaped together with the people it affects. The article grew out of her research for our Balkan Green Policy Lab. Thank you, Nataša and ETUI! 💚

Congratulations to our friends at Miljöpartiet de gröna! 💚

On 13 September, Sweden went to the polls 🇸🇪 – and the Swedish Greens gained four seats, to 22 in parliament.

This election shows that green politics can win, even in times of polarisation. Climate, equality and a strong welfare state were on the ballot, and voters responded. With turnout at nearly 85%, this is what democracy looks like when people believe their vote matters.

Through our work with green parties, young politicians and women leaders around the world, we know how hard it is to build a movement, and how much a result like this can inspire others. People want to see, and they vote for Green policies and action, in Sweden and beyond.

Tidö har fallit och MP går starkt framåt i hela landet! Valresultatet visar nu tydligt att svenska folket har valt en ny rödgrön riktning för Sverige med klimat och jämlikhet i fokus. 🥳

Vi är ett av de partier som ökar mest i valet och vi kommer att förvalta ert förtroende. Vi har gått till val på sänkta utsläpp, en klimatpolitik värd namnet, ett starkt skydd för miljön, minskade klyftor och en stärkt välfärd i hela landet. Att vi bygger ihop vårt land igen. In 30 days, Zambians head to the polls. 🇿🇲

For women candidates, the gap is stark. At the last general election in 2021, women won just 15% of seats in parliament and 7% of elected local positions – despite making up more than half of Zambia's population.

For young women, the climb is even steeper: only one woman elected was under the age of 35.

This election brings something new. Under Zambia's new mixed-member electoral system, 40 parliamentary seats are now reserved for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

This is where the Coalition for Women in Politics (COWIP) comes in. 🌱 Between June 2023 and November 2024, Green Forum and the Center for Young Leaders in Africa-Zambia worked together to build a coalition for change, equip young women for leadership, and amplify their voices – with support from the Swedish Institute.

The 2026 elections will be a key test of how far these gains can go – and whether the voices of young women, amplified through COWIP, will translate into greater representation in Zambia's political leadership.

Last week, our team was in Budapest for The Content Lab – a 3-day bootcamp on political communication and digital strategy organised by the European Center for Digital Action (ECDA), alongside green political actors and communicators from across Europe.

Three action-packed days of honest, practical conversations about what it actually takes to communicate green politics effectively in today's digital landscape.

A few things that stayed with us:

– People don't engage with politics through policies. They engage through emotion, identity, and feeling part of something bigger.
– The most effective campaigns treat their supporters as participants, not just an audience.
– Consistency matters more than budget. Smaller teams can do this too!
– A strong narrative can reach very different people – the key is translating it, not diluting it.

We're bringing these conversations back to our partners across Africa, the Americas, Eastern Europe, and the Western Balkans. Because strong communication is at the heart of strong green movements. 💚
