Another story from an old student from Kondh School:
Korra Arjun (20) , a Kondh Adivasi from Goyyigunta, faced early educational challenges. After failing to adapt to a hostel school, his father took him to Hyderabad for two years of migrant work. There, seeing other children studying, Arjun's interest in education was intensely sparked.
At age 12, unable to read or write, he returned and started attending Kondh Play school in his village. Teacher Kasulamma recognized his motivation and taught him the basics.

Despite being initially rejected from a hostel due to the lack of an Aadhaar card and certificates, Arjun's determination impressed the Head Master at Lambasingi Boarding School, who enrolled him in the 5th grade upon his request (instead of the 8th grade suggested by his age). He excelled, passing the 10th grade (2023) and Intermediate (BiPC, 2025) with A grades.

Although he attempted the NEET exam, he could not pursue further medical studies due to his family's inability to afford the transportation costs for coaching. Driven by his strong desire to learn, Arjun is now continuing his education, pursuing a B.Sc. First Year in Zoology at the Government Degree College, Chintapalli.

Story of a stundent from Kondh School:

Name: Marri Prasad
Age: 17 years
Village: Goyyigunta, Panchayat: Vanjari, Mandal: G. Madugula
Tribe: Kondh Adivasi

Marri Prasad, a 17-year-old Kondh Adivasi student from Goyyigunta village, began his early schooling at Shankaran Thatha Atala Badi. He later joined the G.T.W.A. School in Gemmili and completed his 10th grade in 2023 with a B grade. He continued to APRJC Chintapalli for Intermediate MPC, finishing in March 2025, again with a B grade.

With determination to study further, Prasad wrote the MCT and secured admission in the IT branch of B.Tech at JNTU Vizianagaram. However, even after receiving a scholarship, he realized he could not afford the hostel and food expenses of about Rs. 36,000–40,000 per year. Unable to bear the cost, he gave up his seat and returned to his village.

During an alumni “Get Together” on September 28th, attended by (Rtd) IAS Officer E.S.A. Sarma and Smt. Rani Sarma, Prasad shared his difficulty. Moved by his story, they encouraged him not to discontinue his studies and offered financial support of Rs. 36,000 for the year.

With their help, Prasad returned to JNTU, where the college reinstated his seat. Despite minor issues due to mismatched names on documents, he is now continuing his studies smoothly, with no worries about food or accommodation. Thanks to timely support, Prasad’s educational journey is back on track.

✨ Asha Sweden: Connecting Education & Change ✨

We were honoured to welcome Nandlal, a dedicated teacher from Project Rajatalab, an Asha-supported initiative in India that has been transforming lives through education in Computer Science, Mathematics, and English. 🌱

Asha for Education - Sweden proudly supports Project Mirzapur, a child project connected to Rajatalab, demonstrating how a successful educational model can grow and empower more children.

During his visit to Sweden, Nandlal was invited by Swedish filmmaker Lotta Ekelund to be part of the screening of “Holy Water”, a documentary that tells the story of the struggle, protest, and ultimate victory of rural India in securing safe drinking water. 💧✊

The screening was hosted for students of Economics, Geography, and Democracy at Globala gymnasiet, creating a meaningful space for global learning and dialogue.

Asha for Education - Sweden proudly supported the event by facilitating the screening and translation, ensuring that Nandlal’s story and message reached a wider audience here in Sweden. Alongside this, our ongoing support for Project Mirzapur continues to help children benefit from quality education and opportunities in rural India. 💙

We are inspired by changemakers like Nandlal and humbled to play a role in connecting education, community impact, and global awareness.
