The World Bioenergy Association is pleased to participate in the UNFCCC SB64 Side Event: "Energy Transition for Energy Security: The Belém 4X Pledge on Sustainable Fuels", taking place on 15 June 2026 in Bonn.

Launched ahead of COP30 Brazil, the Belém 4X Pledge on Sustainable Fuels aims to expand the global use of sustainable fuels by at least four times by 2035 compared to 2024 levels. The initiative recognizes the critical role of liquid biofuels, biogases, low-emission hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors while strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable development.

Representing WBA, Gunnar Placzek Policy Officer at the Verband der Deutschen Biokraftstoffindustrie (VDB), will contribute to the discussion on "Sustainable Fuels for Energy Security and Economic Development", highlighting the role of biofuels in decarbonizing the transport sector within the framework of the Belém 4X Pledge.

We look forward to engaging with policymakers, international organizations, industry representatives and civil society on advancing sustainable fuels as a key component of the global energy transition.

📊 Data is essential for building a stronger and more inclusive bioenergy sector.

While studies exist for the broader renewable energy industry, there is still very limited information available on gender representation specifically within bioenergy. Without reliable data, it becomes difficult to understand current challenges, identify opportunities, and measure progress over time.

👥 To help address this gap, the World Bioenergy Association has launched an annual survey on the role and participation of women in bioenergy.

We encourage professionals, organisations, researchers, and stakeholders across the sector to participate and share the survey within their networks. Broad participation is crucial to ensuring meaningful and representative results.

📋 Participate here: https://lnkd.in/e-2_dEuW
📅 Survey closes: 15 June 2026

All responses will remain confidential and results will be shared anonymously.
Together, we can help create a more informed, representative, and inclusive future for bioenergy.
