Celebrating the start of the Earthbound farm! 🥬
In April this year we broke ground on one of the fields to create Earthbound’s farm. An area of 1300 sqm was turned into a regenerative and market garden-inspired system. We enriched the soil with compost, green manures, grew a wide range of heritage and open pollinated varieties of veggies and flowers.
A grant of 50 000kr from Coompanion enabled us to invest in a polytunnel, and to fence in one hectare of the land around the vegetable. That will allow us to expand the farming project over time, while protecting future trees and bushes from deer and boar as they get established.
The aim of the project is to provide fresh, organic, local food and support community, soil health, cultivated and natural biodiversity, as well as local resilience.
It’s been a lovely way to meet neighboring farmers and be a part of the circular flow of resources in the area: We’ve gotten cow manure from the local cow farmer, spoiled hay from the local sheep farmer, wood chips from an arborist: materials that can be put to good use in the farm to help us improve the fertility of the soil.
The fruits of our labour have now started to be eaten in the community, sold in a local community cafe, used by a local chef for dinner events, and sold directly to people at the Reko-ring (a sort of drop-off farmers market).
So far we’ve already harvested more than 222 kg of vegetables, and over 25 pairs of hands have made this happen. 🌱
