Konsthall Tornedalen is initiated by Gunhild Stensmyr,
cultural producer, entrepreneur and art benefactor. In 2002 she opened and programmed Skärets Konsthall in the south of Sweden, which has shown works by artists such as Magnus Thierfelder, Maria Friberg, Julia Peirone and others. She also runs NICE-Network in Culture, a company that initiates and organizes continuing education programs and le
ctures on cultural subjects for museums, art galleries, companies and individuals. Stensmyr, who has roots in Swedish Lapland, moved back to her native village of Tornedalen in 2009, where she developed the concept of the Konsthall Tornedalen. Together with the Bjork family, she donated land for the building of this new institution. The location is in a spectacular setting next to the river Torne, on the border with Finland.
