Men vi får ta sjövägen. Vid 2:a världskrigets slutskede utförde många en fantastisk insats för att hjälpa människor, inte bara de som direkt var på flykt utan även dem, som av olika skäl satt fast i en omöjlig situation. De Vita Bussarna blev världsberömda genom att ge människor en rask och säker transport till räddningen från koncentrationslägrens he***te. Det var ett regeringsinitiativ, som förm
edlades genom Röda Korset. Tusentals människors liv kunde därmed räddas. Idag finns inte något sådant initiativ från vår regering. De Vita Båtarna ska göra det för flyktingar som De Vita Bussarna gjorde för 70 år sedan. När beslutsfattare är passiva, tvingas privatpersoner ta saken i egna händer för att hjälpa dem som tvingats fly från krig och politiskt våld. Vi startar nu en insamling för att ordna direkt sjöförbindelse med östra Medelhavet därför att varken Sverige eller EU står upp för flyktingar i dagsläget. Från säkra platser i Europa ska fartyg gå med förnödenheter och personal till de människor och organisationer i Grekland som är i akut behov av mat, värme, sjukvård och skydd. På vägen tillbaka tar vi med syriska flyktingar som avser att söka asyl i Sverige, men som idag är strandsatta utanför EU:s yttre gräns. Vi seglar därför att det i dagsläget inte finns säkra vägar in till Europa. Den 3e oktober är det två år sedan Lampedusa katastrofen, då en båt med över 500 flyktingar sjönk och 360 personer miste livet. När flyktingar istället väljer landsvägar möts de av murar, poliser och fängelse. Vi anser att EU Direktivet 51/2001/EC (s.k. transportörsansvaret) och Dublinförordningarna står bakom de hinder som skapats för flyktingar. Ska vi ha en gemensam europeisk respons så måste vi samarbeta mellan folk och länder. Vi seglar tillbaka med syriska flyktingar därför att det i dagsläget saknas säkra vägar till Europa. Vi startar härmed en insamling som ska anskaffa de nödvändiga medlen att bekosta dessa sjötransporter samt material och personal, som ska utföra räddningsaktionerna. Insamlingen vänder sig till hela Sverige, såväl privatpersoner som företag och institutioner. Vi har inlett förhandlingar med redare och sjöfartsbranschen för att anskaffa eller inhyra lämpliga fartyg. Vi föregår härmed myndigheter och etablerade samhällsorgan då de vanliga arbetsmetoderna tydligen är för långsamma. För varje dag vi dröjer, går människoliv förlorade – nu gäller handling, inte ord. Vi vädjar nu om stöd från alla som tycker som oss och söker allt samarbete med andra organisationer samt myndigheter som vill hjälpa till. Vi är partipolitiskt obundna och samarbetar med alla som tror på en värld utan Fort Europa. Under 2:a världskriget så kallade nazisterna den kontinentala fästningen de uppbyggt för Fort Europa, då gränserna var så militariserade att ingen förväntades ta sig igenom. Idag, 70 år sedan, står vi framför en snarlik verklighet – ett Europa avskärmat av murar och stängsel, soldater och militarfartyg, där främlingsfientligheten växer och nynazister är nära makten. De Vita Båtarna står upp för alla som flyr utan val från krig och misär, för att bygga ett framtida Europa. Vi seglar för en framtidens Europa, där ingen stämplas som brottsling för att ha hjälpt sina medmänniskor i nöd, utan ges den hjälp och heder de förtjänar. Ett Europa utan ”transportörsansvar” eller Dublinförordningar. Vi seglar för ett solidariskt Europa. Ett Europa där de rikaste hjälper de fattigare gränsländerna att hantera krisen. Vi seglar för en framtidens Europa med säkra vägar in, utan stängsel, taggtråd eller poliser som väntar. Ett Europa utan militariserade gränser. Vi seglar mot Fort Europa, för allas rätt att leva. It is time for the White Busses again. Only this time we take the sea route. At the end of world war two many people and organisation make enormous efforts to help people, not just those directly fleeing but also those stuck in impossible and unbearable situations. The Swedish White Busses became world renowned for giving people a speedy and safe transport to safety from the hell of the N**i concentration camps. It was a private initiative which acted where authorities failed or were obstructed from acting. Thousands of lives were saved as a result. The White Ships seeks to do with refugees today what the White Busses did 70 years ago. Then like now, individuals and civil society organisations were forced to take matters into their own hands to help those fleeing war and political violence. We have started a fundraising effort to arrange a direct sea route with the eastern Mediterranean because neither Sweden nor the EU are doing what is necessary for refugees. Ships will embark from safe ports in Europe with humanitarian supplies and personnel to those people and organisations in Greece in need of food, medical supplies and protection. On our return we will take those Syrian refugees that want to seek asylum in Sweden back with us. We are sailing because at present there are not any safe routes in to Europe for refugees. The third October will mark the second anniversary of the Lampedusa catastrophe, when a boat of over 500 refugees sank and 360 people lost their lives. When refugees shun overcrowded boats in favour of land routes, they are met by walls, police and prisons. We believe the EU Directive 51/2001/EC (the so called “Carriers Liability”) and the Dublin treaties are responsible for a lot of the obstacles created for refugees. If we are to have a common European response to the refugee crisis, we have to cooperate between peoples across borders. We will return with Syrian refugees precisely because at present no safe routes to Europe exist. We are hereby starting a collection to acquire the necessary funds to embark a ship with supplies and personnel to carry out the rescue mission. The collection is aimed at Swedish and non-Swedish sympathisers, private individuals as well as companies and institutions. We have commenced negotiations with shipping companies to acquire or hire appropriate ships for the journey. We are preceding the authorities and established state initiatives as we believe the regular working methods are too slow to act. For every day that passes more human lives are lost – now is the time for deeds not words. Just as with the White Busses, individuals and civil society initiatives are forced to do the work of the state. We plead for support from all those that think like us and we seek all cooperation with other organisations as well as concerned authorities willing to help. We are independent of party politics and will cooperate with anyone who believes in a world without Fort Europa. During world war two, the N**is used to fondly refer to the continental fortress built up during the occupation of much of Europe for ‘Fort Europa’. The borders were so militarised that no army of people was thought able to enter. Today, 70 years later, we stand before a prophetic reality – a Europe shielded by walls and fences, soldiers and military vessels, where racism is on the rise and the far-right is close to power. The White Boats stand up for everyone fleeing from war and misery so that we can build a Europe of the future. We sail for a future Europe where no one is labelled a criminal for helping their fellow humans in need but given the praise and honour they deserve. We envisage a Europe without “carries liability” or Dublin treaties. We sail for a Europe built on solidarity - a Europe where the richest countries help the poorer nations in handling the crisis. We sail for a future Europe with safe inroads, without fences, barbed wire or police waiting – a Europe without militarised borders.
