Tucked in the heart of the Balkans, Bosnia & Herzegovina is a country where dramatic mountain landscapes meet centuries of layered history, multicultural heritage, and a resilient spirit shaped by both conflict and coexistence. From medieval fortresses overlooking emerald rivers to the Ottoman-era bridges that define its cities, Bosnia & Herzegovina offers a compelling blend of tradition and transformation. As a crossroads between empires and civilisations, the country carries influences from the Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Slavic, and Mediterranean worlds — all still visible today in its architecture, politics, and everyday life.
Our journey will primarily take place in Sarajevo, a city where mosques, churches, and synagogues stand within walking distance of one another, and where the scars of the 1990s war coexist with a growing civic landscape. Depending on the final itinerary, we may also travel to the historic city of Mostar, home to the iconic Stari Most bridge, or explore the country’s natural beauty with day trips to the mountains.
We plan to visit embassies, ministries, and NGOs to gain first-hand insights into Bosnia & Herzegovina’s domestic and foreign policy, post-conflict reconstruction, democratic development, and regional role in the Balkans. Through meetings with political and civil society actors, you’ll experience international relations up close while deepening your academic understanding in a complex, real-world environment.
