Rights. Justice. Action.
For All Women and Girls.

With sincere appreciation, we reflect on the remarkable seminar held in celebration of International Women’s Day, inspired by the United Nations theme: “Rights, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls.”

The event was gracefully opened by the President of World Maritime University - headquarters, professor Maximo Mejia Jr., setting a tone of purpose and commitment, followed by insightful contributions from a distinguished guest speaker Mariana Noceti from the IMO Women In Maritime Programe.

A particularly moving moment was the presentation of a Recognition Award to a remarkable woman, Sue Jackson whose 33 years of dedicated service to WMU stand as a testament to perseverance, excellence, and strength. Her journey is not only admirable, it is foundational to the legacy we continue to build, and she could tell us about the gender equality during these years in WMU, being the first time that the university reached 50% of both gender.

Equally impactful was the “Flip the Script” activity, where men engaged thoughtfully by answering questions traditionally posed to women. This simple yet powerful exchange invited reflection, empathy, and a deeper understanding of shared responsibility.

May the spirit of this day continue to echo beyond the seminar room, guiding us toward a future where rights are upheld, justice is lived, and action is taken for every woman and every girl.

On behalf of WMU Women’s Association,
Thank you.
