Our tragedy can become our teacher.
I was rereading The Way to Freedom by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and came across a passage on conceit.
The teaching was simple: if our study and practice don’t make us more humble, then what is the point?
When we’re healthy, we often speak about illness, death, and suffering as if they happen somewhere else. To someone else.
Then life hands us a different curriculum.
Cancer has been one of mine.
Not because it made me wiser.
Not because it made me stronger.
But because it continues to teach me humility.
These days, I find myself deeply respecting people who move through life with grace, kindness, and quiet humility.
Sometimes the lesson isn’t found in the book.
Sometimes we become the lesson.
