UPF Lund Debate

UPF Lund Debate operates in Lund with the purpose of developing and providing a platform for intellectual public debate and critical thinking. We believe that good debates generates better decisions and better knowledge - the strongest arguments, and not

the argument of the strongest, is our aim. Our mission is to work towards that goal by hosting weekly debate events in both Swedish and English where we practice debate. During those events we teach and practice constructing persuasive arguments, critical analysis, and public speaking. We use a format known as "British Parliament" which is a competitive format for facilitating debate used at the World Universities Debating Championship. Competitive debating should be regarded as an intellectual sport where participants have to form the strongest argument for a side that they have been assigned to defend. Since participants in a debate do not choose topic or side of an argument, this form of debating inevitably stimulates the participants to whole-heartedly consider perspectives that he or she might not share beforehand.
