Trans Europe Halles Trans Europe Halles is a European based network of cultural centres initiated by citizens and artists.

We convert abandoned buildings across Europe into vibrant centres for arts and culture. Trans Europe Halles (TEH) is a Europe-based network of cultural centres initiated by citizens and artists. TEH has been at the forefront of re-purposing Europe’s industrial buildings for arts, culture and activism since 1983. As of 2017, TEH has brought together nearly 90 multidisciplinary cultural centres and other cultural organisations from across Europe.

Basic income for artists? How can we campaign for it and implement it in practice? 🦷

🇮🇪 Ireland has become the first country to implement a pioneering scheme that will give artists a basic income for three years, letting them focus on their creativity without constant financial pressure.

Join us as Angela Dorgan shares the blueprint behind one of the most significant cultural policy shifts in recent history. As chair of The National Campaign for the Arts and a key member of the Steering Group, Angela Dorgan was instrumental in lobbying for and designing this pioneering funding scheme. An inspiring grassroots advocacy that was turned into tangible legislative change. ❤️‍🔥

In her keynote, Angela will explore he dual strategy of campaigning "from the bottom up and top down"—uniting artists while securing cross-party political commitments to ensure sustainability beyond election cycles. She will also explain how to build a coalition across the arts, politics, and civil society to keep basic income on the table and reshape expectations for future generations.

By members, for members: policy input in a digestible form. 🌺

At the TEH101 Conference in Marseille, many ideas, questions and perspectives came together around the role of cultural centres and the challenges they face in responding to planetary limits. 🌍

But how can these ideas and experiences become useful beyond the meeting and continue their journey from Marseille across Europe? What can they tell us about the challenges and perspectives that matter to the network? And how can we bring them together and turn them into possible inputs for our policy and advocacy work?

Good questions, right? 💭

👉 Today, we’re sharing four policy briefs written by people from our member centres exploring how cultural centres can respond to planetary limits, climate change, care, and the politics of slowing down.

The briefs capture some of the ideas and reflections emerging from the network and bring them together in a form that can feed into our policy and advocacy work within TEH and beyond. They also give members a way to reflect on the ideas and questions being discussed across the network. 💡

#𝐓𝐄𝐇𝟏𝟎𝟐 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐨! 🦷 🤗
The opening of GRINTA! takes place in Bolzano — bringing us all together halfway through our journey before we continue the final stretch together.

Museion - a collaborator and friend of BASIS Vinschgau Venosta - will be our host for the day. This occasion is an opportunity for both organisations to make their partnership visible and highlight the value of cooperation in the region's cultural landscape. 🌀

After the official part is over, we are invited to stay and trace the evolution of South Tyrol’s independent cultural ecosystem through conversations about the past, direct encounters with people actively shaping the scene today, and a playful word game imagining speculative scenarios of its future.

Before the weekend, we gladly share the next episode of TEH member spotlight: a series that highlights the people, faces, and places in our network.

This time, we’re heading to Silandro, South Tyrol 🇮🇹, where BASIS Vinschgau Venosta has transformed former fascist military barracks into a place for culture, creativity, experimentation, and community. We had a pleasure to talk to the founder of BASIS Hannes and the vice president Anna from BASIS team! 🫶

BASIS was born in 2015 from one person's idea and desire to challenge established structures and create new possibilities for the rural area. Today, BASIS brings together people, ideas and perspectives, with circularity and interconnectedness as important parts of its work.

In the spotlight, Anna and Hannes share:

🏭 how an abandoned military barracks became BASIS
⚙️ why “permanent provisionality” is at the heart of their work
🎊 the diverse community that has grown around the space
🌍 why international exchange matters for a rural cultural hub
💚 and what being part of the TEH network means to them

Help us shape the brand identity and a set of graphic templates for , a new Horizon-funded project Trans Europe Halles became part of, exploring how Europe can engage with its dissonant and contested heritage in careful ways.

✏️ What you'll create:
- a visual identity for the project (logo, colour palette and font selection);
- a brandbook with clear visual guidelines;
- ready-to-use templates for social media, presentations and reports.

Boom-boom-boom! GRINTA! full programme is out now! 💥

programme puts a focus on the grit of underground culture, its persistence, resilience and fighting spirit. 🦷 This programme is an invitation to explore who we are, what makes us tick, and how we can preserve our passion in a world that seems increasingly hostile towards the free-spiritedness that we embrace.

Apart from the usual workshops, talks, keynotes, this programme offers plenty of opportunities to dive into the unconventional: walks to discover Silandro’s inhabitants, landscape and history; choreographic explorations of dreams and empathy; deeper ‘networking’; a playful deconstruction of artist reality; and even moments of silence and rest. Needless to say, we will also dance, hang out around the bonfire and have fun together! 🪩

TEH102 programme is taking shape, and we are happy to share the first insights! ✨

After a few intense and wonderful days of meeting people, sharing experiences and reflecting together, why not treat yourself to a bit of rest and relaxation before setting off again? 🌾

Our members, La Foresta - Accademia di comunità, who are just a couple of hours away from BASIS, are inviting everyone to visit them on Sunday after the official programme is over. What they are offering is not another workshop or a working session, but an opportunity to spend time together in a relaxed context, while discovering the social and cultural scene in Trentino, Northern Italy.

🌾 La Foresta - Community Academy is an emerging commons developed within the train station of Rovereto (Vallagarina) that has joined our network in 2025. It is an open and ever-changing community, made up of people, groups and organisations passionate about eco-social transformation.

Consult our anti-eviction resource, Hold Your Ground. It is a practical and accessible publication tailored to independent cultural centres. The inside combines reflection questions and worksheets to help your centre build your collective knowledge, evaluate your current situation, and mobilise effectively in case a crisis arises.

It is the first step in our commitment as a network to work further on strengthening our collective capacity to face and/or prevent eviction. 🌱🌱
