Weekend rewind: no filter, just feels 🫶

Friday started with International Citizen Day & Café Curious running high on adrenaline… then came the SOCIAL HUB VIBES. The kind that hits different...

We showed up thinking: chill kubb in the park. Easy. 😌 But then the rain rolled in, the tiredness hit, and the whole plan flipped. Next thing we knew, the veteran volunteers were opening up with their most emotional moments from Social Hub… 🥹 And the newcomers? Some didn't have one of those yet. But they walked away with a real taste of what this community can do. The happy kind. Can't wait to hear theirs someday soon. 🤗

All that emotion made us hungry though. Snacks weren't cutting it. So one call to our friends at La Cucina later – boom, table ready. “Saudade” gone. Replaced by laugh-until-you-cry chaos. 😂🍕

Saturday: Craft&Connect at HUB & Café ☕🧵 + a Local Discovery walk from Åkarp → Alnarpsparken → Lomma → Bjärred.🌊🚶‍♀️ Handcraft, shared fika, sea, fields, good legs, better company. Whether we work with our hands or our feet, being together always feels like coming home.💓

Sunday? Japanese cherry on top – placed with chopsticks! 🍒🥢🇯🇵

Miki hopped on board Intercultural Hitchhikes and taught us the proper way to use them. Then came the best part – and it was totally unexpected. Participants from China, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam just started telling how they do it too. A spontaneous moment of sharing and learning from each other. No script, just pure intercultural wow. 🙌🌏

With Riho's help, Miki also guided us in making wonderful origami that served as a rest for our wooden chopsticks. On each chopstick we wrote a little dedication to another participant, then exchanged them – a beautiful souvenir to take home. 💌

And to close? A totally improvised traditional group dance for this time of year. Ridiculously beautiful. 💃

Social Hub in a nutshell? At International Citizen Day Lund, you could catch a glimpse of it. 🌍✨

Here’s why.

Last Friday, the very first International Citizen Day in Lund turned its motto into something you could actually feel: Connect. Learn. Feel at Home. And we were honoured to help International Citizen Hub Lund make it happen as a partner, both in the planning and throughout the event. 😌

More than 300 internationals, exhibitors, and speakers from across the Greater Copenhagen region filled the space. It was the kind of energy that stays with you. From the conversations at our stand to a brief moment on stage introducing Social Hub, we loved every chance to (re)connect with both old and new faces. 🧡🌐

Sure, job hunting, bureaucracy, and the Swedish weather are hard. But again and again, internationals tell us something else is even harder: building meaningful social connections and a genuine sense of belonging. 🤝 That gap is exactly what Social Hub was built to fill.

The day ended with Café Curious ☕👀. Even those who couldn't get a spot in the full programme were welcome to drop in and experience International Citizen Day in their own way. And they did – with laughter, honest conversations, and shared stories that crossed cultures, professions, ages, and life experiences. That's what Social Hub is all about: space for real relationships, new opportunities, and yes, a little bit of magic. ✨

“I had no idea there were so many interesting institutions and employers up here!” 💬 “The guest speakers' stories and insights made me feel truly seen and connected!

What a fantastic way to conclude the sixth season of Get in Touch & Grow Your Network! 🌟

This week, around 35 international job seekers joined us for a visit to Science Village Scandinavia, where they explored one of Lund's most exciting innovation and science environments. 🇸🇪🔬🏢

Through short presentations of our wonderful guest speakers from ESS, LINXS, MAX IV, Camurus, and Altitude, our participants gained new insights into the Swedish labour market, different career paths, and the opportunities that exist within this growing ecosystem.

The following networking was just as valuable. 🤝🌐

The conversations during our mingle rounds were so engaging that many continued even after the official programme had ended. There were questions, reflections, shared experiences, and plenty of new connections.

We also had the chance to visit LINXS' facilities, explore Altitude's inspiring CollabArena, and discover the impressive Science Village Hall. ✨

A huge thank you to Altitude for hosting us and sharing your Jobbhjälpen programme with us. 🙏
And thank you to our guest speakers and participants for bringing so much openness and positive energy to the day. 💛

Our Tuesday morning sessions are now taking a summer break, but meaningful conversations and new connections don't stop when the season ends. ☀️🌿

We hope to see many of you at our other activities over the coming months. After all, networking isn't only about finding a job. It's about meeting people, learning from each other, and building relationships along the way. 🌱🌍

✨ This feels almost like magic!

We’ve just completed two rounds of volunteer onboarding, and we’re excited that nearly 50 volunteers—both new and existing—joined us!

In two online sessions, we explored the story of Social Hub: where we came from, where we are today, and where we want to go next. 🌱📍🚀

Over the past three years, Social Hub has evolved from a top-down NGO into a truly community-driven initiative, shaped and brought to life by the people who are part of it.

That’s why welcoming new volunteers feels so special. Every person brings their own experiences, ideas, and passions. Together, they shape what Social Hub is today—and what it will become tomorrow.

Because Social Hub isn’t something we run for the community. Social Hub is the community. ❤️

Together, we’ve built a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming space where people connect, find belonging, and create opportunities for one another. Every activity and initiative exists because people choose to get involved and make it happen. 🙌🌍

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the onboarding sessions and is now part of our Social Hub Ambassador team. Your enthusiasm, ideas, and commitment are what make this community so special. 🫶

Here’s to many more years of building connections, creating belonging, and making Lund feel a little more like home for people from all over the world.

Join our fantastic team leader Olga, on Saturday, for our next Local Discoveries hike from Åkarp through Alnarp and Lomma all the way to Bjärred — a beautiful route filled with peaceful nature, open landscapes, and stunning coastal views. 🌊

We’ll walk through the magical park area of Alnarp with its towering trees, botanical gardens, and scenic trails before heading toward Lomma’s sandy beaches and fresh sea breeze. Along the way, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to relax, connect, and take beautiful pictures! 📸

We’ll also enjoy a lunch break at Lomma Beach, so remember to bring your own lunch.

The final stretch to Bjärred offers incredible seaside views across the Öresund — and maybe even a glimpse of Copenhagen on a clear day ☀️

A weekend of 🔝 vibes for all ages!

It all started around the fire – well, an artificial campfire we gather around once a month to share what's actually on our minds. This time we talked about "home" – a word full of memories, but also future and hope. 🏠💬 Artificial in shape only, because our conversations made it more real than any real flame. 🔥

Then Saturday came, and with it the new Yoga Academy course – outdoors for the first time! And yes, we finally did a proper sun salutation to the actual sun ☀️ No ceiling. Just Ewa keeping us from falling over. 🧘

Busy day for her. In the afternoon she also led the little ones at the first Social Hub Family Day! Dolphins, butterflies, cobras – so many fun animal poses to kick off the event 🐬🦋🐍

And let's be honest – yoga really opened up our stomachs, so we all attacked the fika table! A lovely moment of sharing, with sweet treats made by our tiny and not-so-tiny bakers 🍪

Bellies full, time to learn. Max & Julia showed us simple tricks to create energy from alternative sources ⚡ We uncovered a bunch of little scientists while playing! 💡

Then we stretched our legs and ran to collect chestnuts – saving them and bringing home the victory 🌰 But the real fight came later: a crazy tug of war where kids and adults gave it absolutely everything 💪

A little dancing to burn off the last bit of energy 🕺 a lollipop in each mouth 🍭 and one last smile – the perfect ending to a wonderful event for all! Thank you to all the stars who joined ⭐

And just when we thought it was over, the bravest among us headed out for a Local Discovery to Billebjer – one of the most beautiful high spots in Lund 🌲 Incredible views over the yellow and green fields of Skåne, including the Öresund Bridge and Turning Torso. Hip hip hurrah to our new team leader Janine for putting this together! 🙌

Another weekend we won't forget. Made possible by members and volunteers who gave their best. This is Social Hub. This is our community. This is open to everyone! 🤗

🚐✨ Intercultural Hitchhikes continues its journey through Asia… and this time, we’re stopping in Japan! 🎌🌸

Join us for an interactive cultural workshop where we’ll explore Japanese dining culture in many different ways! 🍙

📍 Where? Stadshallen, Lund
📅 When? Sunday, May 31, 12:30–14:30

Together, we’ll discover:

🍱 Japanese dining customs and the cultural meaning behind them
🥢 The unwritten rules of using chopsticks (yes, there are more than you think 👀)
🎎 Small cultural details that make everyday life in Japan so unique and thoughtful

And of course… we won’t just talk — we’ll create too 💪
During the workshop, we’ll make our own origami chopstick rests together! 🥢🔰

The workshop will be facilitated by Miki Yasui, born and raised in Japan and recently relocated to Malmö. 🇯🇵🇸🇪 True to the spirit of Intercultural Hitchhikes, she will do more than just “show” her culture — we will experience it together while creating small moments of connection along the way. 🤗

This workshop is free and open to anyone curious about Japanese culture — no matter your age or background. Just bring your curiosity and an open mind. 💛
