When I was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer in 2011, some friends and family reached out and asked if they could help my husband Dean and I with a benefit since all of my treatments were not covered by insurance and not in the USA. I knew that I would never be able to pay it back but I promised that I would pay it forward. This diagnosis came only two days before my daughter was taken out of a body cast for treatment of hip dysplasia, it had already been a rough year for my family. With that being said, God has placed some very special people in my life and we have now created and launched Just Do What Matters. Our hope is to help people financially by creating a crisis fund and to help them find a path to healing. I believe God made our bodies to heal and sometimes a person just needs help finding the right path to the right doctor to get the right diagnosis so that the healing can begin. Colossians 3:15 ”And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you were called in one body; and be thankful.” I did not have peace with the diagnosis, the prognosis nor the treatment options that were laid before me but I did find peace when I stepped out in faith and crossed the border into Tijuana and found a doctor who treated me with 1/10th the dose of chemotherapy. I was able to continue to ride horses, compete in barrel racing and did not suffer the other painful side effects that many patients experience. I can’t stay quiet any longer. God has been too good in my life to keep Him a secret. I am back to work, paying off medical bills, catching up on life bills, and I can’t help but remember where I was when I crossed the American/Mexico border all those years ago. I don’t have just one testimony; I have hundreds. I want JDWM to be a place where I can share my journey, help anyone seek health, help anyone seek God, pay it forward and pay it back. Most importantly I want JDWM to be a tribute to the loving God whom I serve as a wife, a mother, a competitor, a survivor and an overcomer. Jesus did not die for me to live a life of mediocrity. As a believer, I know I am the salt and light of the earth and those two things will change the world.
