FUF Jönköping

31/01/2024

Sudan has suffered from several climate change impacts during the last decades, such as drought, flooding, and rise in temperature. This has affected many parts of the Sudanese society – for example the agricultural sector and the food security in the country. Sudan has also suffered from conflicts around natural resources and land, which have caused marginalization of rural communities.

FUF Jönköping and FUF Uppsala invite you to a lecture about the profound impact of climate change on the people of Sudan amidst the backdrop of an ongoing war crisis in the country. The lecture will be held by Alhassan Mohamed, a Sudanese environment and climate activist who has taught at various institutions such as Manchester and Bonn University. He’s currently a first-year student at the Faculty of Arts in the department of Media and Journalism.

During the lecture, Alhassan will talk about the challenges the people of Sudan are faced with. He will provide a valuable insight into how war, climate change, and poverty mutually influence one another, shaping the lives of Sudanese communities. The lecture is not only contributing with great knowledge, it is also giving the people of Sudan a voice in times where they are being neglected by the world.

Are you thinking about doing an internship? Maybe doing it abroad? Or maybe you are just interested in learning more about the situation for women in rural India? This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how development work operates in practice and the difference it makes.

Josefin Nilsson and Amanda Ömar have recently finished their internship at the organisation Grameena Mahila Okkuta, which they got through Svalornas internship program. They will share the experience and knowledge they gained through their time in rural India, where they mostly worked with women's rights. For instance, how a grassroot organisation like the Grameena Mahila Okkuta can work on a local level to reduce the obstacles facing women in India due to patriarchal structures, such as child marriage and domestic violence. Moreover, the lecturers will give an update about the current situation for the people in rural India and how they as interns worked to ameliorate the situation for the poor and vulnerable.
The lecturers will also introduce Svalornas internship program – the requirements to become an intern, where you can go on an internship and how the application process works.
There will be time for asking all your questions at the end of the lecture.

When: 25th of May at 17.00-18.15
Where: HLK Jönköping in Hb116 and on Zoom

The lecture will be showed on screen at HLK, but you can also participate on Zoom. Observe that registration is required for both physical and digital participation. LINK IN THE BIO!
