💡 Helsingborg Tech Week kicked off yesterday at Lund University, Campus Helsingborg, with a gathering of representatives from Helsingborg Innovation District and a talk by a Nobel Prize-winning physicist!

Tech Week is an annual event organised by Helsingborg Innovation District and its partner hubs, bringing together business, academia and the public sector to explore new technologies, encourage collaboration and turn innovative ideas into practical solutions for sustainable growth.

A packed lecture hall listened intently to a talk by Anne L’Huillier: “The World of Atoms at the Attosecond Time Scale”. For most of us, this was way beyond our level of school physics, but Anne combined humility, humour, and teaching expertise to make complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging, while sharing insights from her long career in research and her prize-winning discoveries.

💡 Today, we attended a talk by Trim Biba and Karsten Deppert at HETCH: “Overview: The 25 Most Interesting Startups in the Øresund Region”.

It was a reminder that Greater Copenhagen (Skåne and the Copenhagen area) has a remarkable record in innovation, with food tech, medical sciences, fintech and gaming among the sectors driving startups on both sides of the Öresund Strait. These growing businesses also create new opportunities for jobs and offer exciting possibilities for international talent looking to build their careers in the region.

🌍 From Culture Shock to Connection

On Thursday, we welcomed Kristy Marcard of Marcard Language & Culture for an engaging and thought-provoking session exploring the rollercoaster of culture shock and the journey towards feeling at home in a new country.

From the challenges of everyday life in an unfamiliar culture to the joys of building friendships and finding a sense of belonging, Kristy shared personal stories, research and practical tips that resonated with our international community.

💬 Our audience was actively engaged, sharing their own experiences and reflections. One of the most valuable messages was that culture shock is a real and recognised experience, and that we're not alone in facing its challenges.

We came away with some helpful reminders:

✨ Be gentle with yourself during times of change.
🌱 Give friendships time to grow; small, consistent steps matter.
🤝 Stay connected to your roots while exploring your new culture.
💛 Find your community and keep showing up.

A huge thank you to Kristy for bringing insight, energy, humour and hope to the conversation. Your presentation helped us turn shared challenges into opportunities for understanding and connection.

🇨🇴 Today at our HIC Drop-in Session, we met Caro, an experienced international professional who has lived and worked in Colombia, the USA, London and Åland. She recently made Helsingborg her home.

🌎 After just three months in the city, Caro stopped by to connect, exchange experiences and get to know more about the people and opportunities around her.

And there was certainly plenty to talk about! With extensive experience in talent development, upskilling, project management and much more, Caro brings a strong and diverse skill set, as well as a genuinely international perspective. She's now looking ahead to her next professional opportunity and is open to new roles from January. 💪

Our conversation covered everything from settling into a new city to building a professional network and finding the right connections in Helsingborg. We were also able to share useful tips, information and resources. 🤝
