Green Cross Sweden is national organization of Green Cross International founded in Kyoto by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1993. GCI is a non-profit and non-governmental organization working to promote environmental security. The Green Cross mission is to help foster a sustainable future by cultivating harmonious relationships between humans and our planetary Earth. Green Cross works to build a just, susta
inable and secure future for all, by fostering a paradigm shift of consciousness and ethical values, and cultivating a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility in mankind’s relationship with the Mother Earth. We work with through a holistic perspective to bring forth peace and environmental security. Green Cross promotes legal, ethical and behavioral norms that aim to change the values, actions and attitudes of government, the private sector, civil society and people at large so to ensure a sustainable future for humanity. We work in the spirit of cooperation through in dialogue and mediation. We act to respond to the combined challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation to ensure a sustainable and secure future. We aim to inspire youth and adults with a positive awareness of, and responsibility for, their actions and the environment to cultivate the roots of peace and sustainable future. Green Cross Sweden works under the guidelines of the Green Cross International programs: Preventing and resolving conflicts over natural resources; addressing the environmental consequences of wars and conflicts; and promoting value and behavior change. Green Cross in Sweden was founded by the late environmental journalist Jan Danielson and former EU Parliamentarian Maj-Britt Theorin.
