An independent non-profit organisation that makes you race climate positive and preserves the nature. We are outdoor lovers, adventurers and trailrunners.

It is not the pawed path that we long for. It is Nature, the trails, the forests and the mountains. It is not the pawed path, the stadiums or the roads that we long for. It is Nature. The trails, the forests and the mountains. The wild outdoors. But the climate is changing. It is not only carbondioxide in the atmosphere, the biodiversity is also threatened. We believe that the answer lies in nature, and natures ability to heal it self. The measures we take to reduce the climate change, also benefits biodiversity. By protecting natural old growth forests, promoting permaculture and restoring wetlands we will help nature do what it does best. Suck CO2 from the atmospere and convert it to nature and wildlife.

This year, is one of only two Swedish runners lining up at the legendary Western States Endurance Run.

Not only is he a member of Trail Cred Running Club, but he has also chosen to balance his journey from Sweden to the USA through us. Thanks to his contribution, more than 500 m² of old-growth forest will be protected and preserved for the future.

A meaningful gift back to nature and a great example of how adventure and responsibility can go hand in hand.

The forest thanks you for your contribution, and all of us at Trail Cred wish you the very best of luck on your WSER adventure. Enjoy every mile of this incredible journey!

Trail Cred goes Spain!

Rewilding Spain, Wilderway and Trail Cred have decided to join forces in Spain to reach out to a new sector in the country, trail running events. The outcome of the partnership is to protect more wilderness and increased community engagement. This partnership will open up for Trail Cred to expand their concept into Spain where they help trail races and their participants to balance their climate footprint by protecting nature. The funds will be used by Wilderway and Rewilding Spain to enhance biodiversity in the Iberians Highlands through wetlands restoration, old-growth forest protection and boosting natural grazing.

This partnership will enable to conserve more of the last remaining old-growth forest in the Iberian Highlands by compensating the owners for the loss in timber revenues. These magnificent and irreplaceable old trees are thereby saved, so they can continue to make a valuable and substantial contribution to carbon sequestration, while hosting much of the biodiversity that lives in this ecosystem.

.shore is the next trail race in Norway taking a step forward to actively balance its race footprint.

https://www.trailcred.org/races/endless-shore/

Through Trail Cred’s voluntary contribution campaign, every participant has the opportunity to give back to the nature we all depend on. The race takes place on May 23, and this is a chance for all of us — runners, supporters, and organizers — to come together and be part of something bigger.

We’ve identified a very special place in Norway that truly reflects what trail running is all about: moving freely through wild, untouched nature.Stemmetjønn – a Fossagrim Habitat Forest

This old-growth forest carries both natural and cultural significance. It was here that Sondre Norheim, the father of modern skiing, trained and explored — and nearby, in Morgedal, the world’s first ski race was held in 1866.

Because of its steep terrain and limited accessibility, the forest has remained largely untouched by modern forestry. Today, it provides rare and invaluable habitats for species that depend on deadwood and ancient trees — ecosystems that are increasingly disappearing.
By supporting this campaign, you help protect not just a forest, but a living legacy of biodiversity, history, and the spirit of moving freely in nature.

Let’s come together on May 23 and make this race about more than just the finish line

Trail Cred would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to , with Jim and Lene at the helm, and to all the amazing volunteers for delivering an incredible event.

The 100-mile race was truly the tough challenge we had been looking forward to.

In the same beautiful spirit that surrounds Sandnes, many of you have contributed to helping us now protect 1,638 m² of the Stemmetjønn forest. The total contribution amounted to 2,455 SEK.

Together with our partner , we will now secure this forest area to preserve biodiversity and help balance the footprint many of us leave behind — all so that we can continue to challenge ourselves in magnificent nature for many generations to come.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Fossagrim and Trail Cred are joining forces to protect more wilderness and increase community engagement – starting in Norway.

Old-growth forests are the most powerful local stores of carbon and biodiversity we have. This partnership mobilizes trail running athletes – who care deeply about the nature they run – to lead by example and balance their nature footprints, by funding the preservation of these forests.

We encourage all participants of Sandnes Ultra Trail to join our efforts of balancing our race footprint. We have identified a forest in Norway that really follow our ambitions of moving freely in a fantastic nature. In the forest called Stemmetjønn, Sondre Norheim was active, father of modern skiing. In 1866, the world’s first ski race was organized in Morgedal, the nearby village. The forest has traditionally been less intensively managed because of the steep terrain and difficult access, leaving invaluable habitats for species linked to deadwood and old trees. These forests are especially valuable today both for biodiversity and cultural heritage. More recent road projects have made the forest easily available for modern forestry and harvesting. Therefore we see the need of securing continued and undisturbed forest growth for at least 30 years. This is what your contribution will do, secure the forest. Let’s see how far we can reach!

Today we celebrate International Day of Forests

At Trail Cred, we want to highlight the importance of protecting old-growth forests — some of our planet’s most valuable and fragile ecosystems. As trail runners and race organizers, we all have a role to play in balancing our footprint, ensuring that the places we love to explore remain intact for generations to come.

A recent study from Lund University highlights that:
• The majority of carbon in old-growth forests is stored in the soil, dead wood, and living trees
• Converting natural forests into managed secondary forests leads to significantly higher carbon losses than previously estimated
• Clear-cutting old forests releases large amounts of CO₂, which can take decades to reabsorb
• At the current rate, remaining old-growth forests outside protected areas could disappear by the 2070s

Researchers emphasize that protecting these forests is essential to meeting climate goals. Leaving them undisturbed is one of the most effective ways to preserve their carbon storage capacity.

Let’s run with respect and balance.
