Meet me at the Nordic Coffee Fest this weekend Feb 28 - Mar 1, 2026 to know more about our work with EUDR-compliance in the coffee value chain from Colombia. Get the chance to get samples from our producers from Huila.

EUDR is a pioneering law that aims to ensure that products entering the EU market (or manufactured for export) are deforestation-free (after the cut-off date of December 31, 2020, in the country of origin) and legally produced.

At CAVEC we have worked with SMEs in Huila to strengthen their capacities to comply with EUDR and to implement an Environmental and Social Management System adapted to the local context, thereby improving coffee production conditions and facilitating export processes, mainly to the Nordic market.

Get the chance to get samples from our producers from Huila, specially if you are a coffee exporter like Caravela Coffee, Ally Coffe, Nordic Approach...

CAVEC is a project executed by Business Partners, CIV LAC and the Huila Government in Colombia. CAVEC is one of the -INVEST Verde projects, implemented by , leader of the Implementing Consortium for , and funded by the .

The future of coffee ☕ ❤️ !!
In the Nordics we love coffee … and we also love nature and we are deeply concerned about deforestation globally 🌳

So what to do 🧐 ?

IBP, together with its partners in Colombia ForumCiv LAC, have worked hands-on with EUDR compliance in the coffee industry in Colombia, making sure value chain are more sustainable, transparent and traceable all the way down to the smallholder farmers in Colombia. Also making sure farmers are included and can continue with their business to ensure livelihoods while minimising deforestation.

And why is this important .. except that we here in the nordics can continue to enjoy a nice cup of coffee ☕?

It’s important because we make sure there are sustainable value chains for coffee by minimising the risk of deforestation and procuring smallholder farmers have decent livelihoods, while complying to EU regulations.

At IBP we are all about inclusion, and we want to make sure that coffee smallholder farmers are included in EU value chains, and that Nordic coffee businesses make their value chains and businesses more sustainable.

Extremely proud how IBP and partners use business as a tool to include all and preserve nature 🌳

Enjoy your coffee dear friends ☕ ❤️!

🗞️ Mini-article: Scaling sustainable food innovation – what Europe is learning right now.

🥑 How do we make sustainable food systems truly scalable?

That was the big question for our impact investing expert Lorah Njagi Holmstedt, Director of Consulting and Finance at Inclusive Business Partners — who has been exploring how agri- and food-tech innovations can scale across regions and markets.

Here are lessons from how agri-food impact investing is evolving today across Europe and emerging markets:

1️⃣ Agri-food isn’t a side sector – it touches every part of society. For many investors, it’s not just a strategic focus but a personal mission.

2️⃣ Ticket sizes in agri are still smaller than in other verticals. Lorah notes that, particularly in the Global South, agri-investments remain modest - something that deserves closer study.

3️⃣ Consensus is growing around measuring impact. Investors still expect strong ROI and clear, verifiable environmental or social outcomes.

4️⃣ Agri-food investment flows differ by context. in Northern Europe, regulation, infrastructure, and market structure play a key role. While in the Global South, investment performance is tied to seasonality, income volatility, and proximity to farmers.

5️⃣ Systems matter. Food-tech solutions only scale when they integrate across the value chain, from production and processing, to markets and policy. Interconnectedness defines the future. Europe’s food tech future depends not just on technology, but on understanding how every part of the system connects to the next. “How quinoa is farmed in Kenya directly affects what’s on our plates in Sweden.”

🇸🇪 🤔 36.7% of Western Swedish investors state that impact influences their willingness to invest, compared to approximately 30% nationally

According to a new report on Investor Barometer by Connect Väst, West Sweden's business angels are the most optimistic – and more impact-driven than the national average.

Western Sweden is the region where investors place the greatest importance on the societal impacts of a company's operations.

“Gut feeling and the will to do good play a big role.”

Jonatan Tops, analyst for Connect's Investor Barometer, describes why impact has become increasingly important:

“It is natural that investors who come in early on need to see the potential for a really good return, given the high risk in the early stages of companies. If that potential is in place, it often becomes decisive what impact the company's operations have on the world around it.

To a fairly large extent, decisions are made with the gut – and supported by the will to do good.”

Impact issues often weigh heavily in areas where Western Sweden is particularly strong: mobility, climate, sustainable industry and energy transition.

"We have seen the need for increased expertise in impact, both among companies and investors, and now the latest figures say that the investment is absolutely timely," concludes Manolo Obaya.

Western Sweden plans largest capital investments

Both the investor index and planned investments are higher in Western Sweden than in other regions. This means that the region's entrepreneurs can count on continued access to private capital.

Initiatives that meet the need

Earlier this year, the “Impact West” project was launched, an initiative run by Connect Sverige Region Väst and Inclusive Business Partners which aims to support investors with knowledge and tools to increasing the proportion of impact companies in their portfolios, as well as impact companies that want to strengthen their knowledge of how to communicate their impact and become investment-ready at the same time.

–Impact West (2025–2027) aims to strengthen the competence of impact- interested investors and foodtech companies in Västra Götaland – with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Tillväxtverket and Västra Götalandsregionen.
