🎵 Fun Facts about Leonard Bernstein
1. He wrote "Maria" (West Side Story) with five notes... in a taxi.
Bernstein confessed that the melodic idea came suddenly during a ride in New York.
2. He was a natural polyglot.
He spoke English, German, French, Italian, and a little Spanish.
3. Conductor + pianist + composer in the same concert.
One evening at Tanglewood, he performed a program in which he:

– conducted,
– and introduced the piece to the audience.

4. He was famous for "dancing" on the podium.
Colleagues said he seemed to dance with the music, not simply conduct it.
