Today 8 of our Scouts completed an 18 km cycling adventure through the Runriket in Täby as part of their Local Knowledge and Adventure Challenge badges! 🚴⚜️
Runriket (the kingdom of runes) is a historic area in Vallentuna known for it's runestones, the vast majority of which were carved and erected around the end of the Viking Age, around 970 – 1130 AD.
Starting at Jarlabanke bro (a bridge built by the landowner Jarlabanke featuring some of the many runestones that he and his family raised, with which we are able to follow his family tree) the Scouts circled Vallentunasjön clockwise, tracking the runestones, reading the inscriptions and exploring local history.
Despite the fact that it had rained most of they day, we were rewarded with beautiful sunshine and stunning Swedish countryside. A brilliant effort from everyone involved, especially considering that for a generally low-lying country, our trails seemed to go up and down constantly! Some tired legs expected tomorrow, well done to all those who took part and a big thank you to our Leaders on this adventure 🪨
