Who We Are

Project Vita is a nonprofit organization that has it roots in Sweden and Mozambique and carries out several projects in Mozambique. How We Work

At Project Vita, development comes from closing a knowledge gap between those who have access to knowledge and those who do not. For each project we form a team of foreign and local volunteers who work side by side to develop the communities in Mozambique. What We Do

Together with the community, Project Vita finds solutions to everyday challenges by introducing new techniques and technologies that can then be reproduced at low cost by community members to improve their quality of life. At Project Vita, we believe the secret to sustainable and frog-leap development is knowledge sharing. We run a program that brings knowledge and techniques from overseas through a network of foreign volunteers who adapt their methods to the local community’s traditional methods, helping empower villagers to improve their lives. What We Believe

At Project Vita, we believe that we can only make meaningful changes in others’ lives if we walk in their shoes! Our supporters and volunteers are strongly encouraged to come live with us in the community to get a deeper understanding of the needs of the people whose lives they are helping. Only by working, living and walking side by side can we truly understand and help each other!

Years ago, Project Vita launched “Light Up Linga Linga” with the support of BRIGHT Products , bringing multifunctional solar lamps to local households in Mozambique. ☀️

But innovation doesn’t stop with the original idea!
•
Here in Mozambique, we call it “macgyver” finding creative ways to reuse, adapt and make the most of what you have. And this is a perfect example! 🙌
•
One local man took his Bright Products solar lamp, connected the solar panel to the battery, and adapted it to his bicycle. The result? Charging during the day when biking and getting a front light to see where he’s going during night and a rear light so others can see him when he rides home after dark. 🚲💡
•
This is what happens when useful technology meets local creativity. A simple solar lamp becomes something more making everyday life a little safer and showing how people can turn an idea into their own solution.
•
A big shout-out to the Norwegian company BRIGHT Products for creating products that inspire innovation far beyond their original purpose! 🇳🇴🇲🇿

We now have students from Chalmers University here doing their master thises. We believe that a more sustainable society can be reached thru knowledge sharing and collaboration. 🌱🐟

Together with student from Chalmers University of Technology and Universidade Metodista Unida de Moçambique, they are exploring opportunities for sustainable aquaculture in Mozambique.
•
By connecting Swedish knowledge and innovation with local needs, we can develop solutions that create lasting impact for both communities and the environment. 🇸🇪🤝🇲🇿

💧 Vatten och sanitetslösning till grundskolan i Linga Linga, Mozambique

Tillsammans med Jämtkraft AB , ICA SUPERMARKET BRUNFLO , Sqrtn Company™️ , svalbardvibe och individ donationer har vi för ett tag sen byggt ett nytt vattensystem med vattentorn, borrat efter vatten och byggt toaletter vid skolan i Linga Linga.
•
Rent vatten och bättre sanitet skapar tryggare och bättre förutsättningar för barnen att gå i skolan. ❤️🇲🇿🇸🇪
•
Jämtländska företag och individer i Sverige gjorde detta möjligt och tillsammans kan vi skapa små förbättringar ute i världen 🌍 🤝🇸🇪🇲🇿

Something that is very important to us before starting any project is to involve the community, listen to the people, respect the local culture, and work with the existing structures in the village.
•
This project is something the community has asked for. You might wonder: How do we know that the people actually want it?
•
The answer is pretty simple, we ask them. ❤️
•
The idea for this project is also the result of several bachelor’s and master’s theses carried out by students from Sweden, exploring different aspects of life in rural Mozambique from energy and human needs to design and community development.
•
Before we start a project, we hold a community meeting together with the Mayor of Morrumbene, district representatives, the village chief and the local community.
•
We explain what we are planning, listen to their thoughts and concerns, and discuss how the project can best serve the community.
•
Because development should never be something we simply bring to a community. It should be something we build together with them. 🇲🇿🇸🇪
•
And this is exactly what we are doing together with Relief Crew Foundation & the district of Morrumbene❤️
•
When like-minded people and organizations come together, great things become possible. 💪🌍

Finally, after almost a decade, we crossed paths with the right person and what once felt like a dream is now becoming a reality. 💪

Over the past months, & have had the opportunity to work with us in Linga Linga, Mozambique, exploring how Design Thinking can be used to identify contextually relevant solutions for female entrepreneurs in the local fish value chain.
•
They spent time trying to understand how fish moves through everyday life in Linga Linga: how it is caught, prepared, preserved, sold, shared, and consumed. •
•
Through observations, interviews, participatory activities, and prototyping, we saw how much value fish already creates, but also how easily that value is lost due to short shelf life, limited preservation options, irregular income, and restricted access to markets.
•
Based on these insights, they developed and evaluated four solution concepts:
•
Fish powder •
A low-cost way to use small fish and fish parts that are often underutilized. By drying, grinding, and sieving the fish, it can be turned into a nutrient-rich powder that can be added to everyday meals.
•
Fish samosas •
A value-added food product that transforms fish into a portable and familiar snack. The concept was positively received during testing and showed potential as a small-scale income-generating activity.
•
Angled raised drying racks
•
A more effective drying method that builds on existing practices. The angled, raised surface improves airflow, supports faster and more even drying, and reduces exposure to sand, insects, animals, and dirt.
•
Solar tent dryers •
A more advanced preservation concept that protects fish from insects, animals, dust, and rain while reducing drying time. While promising in theory, it requires more materials and external support, making implementation more challenging in the local context.
•
Thank you and everyone in Linga Linga who shared their time, knowledge, and perspectives with them. This study has shown that meaningful innovation in resource-constrained contexts is not about introducing the most advanced solution. It is about understanding the local system deeply enough to develop solutions that people can actually use, adapt, and own.

Today it’s Mozambican Women’s Day and is celebrated on April 7th in honor of Josina Machel.
•
She was a key figure in the liberation movement FRELIMO, fighting not only for independence but also for women’s rights in Mozambique. When she passed away on April 7, 1971, at just 25 years old, she became a powerful symbol of courage, resilience, and the strength of women.
•
This day is celebrated to:

• honor the role of women in the country’s history
• highlight the ongoing fight for gender equality
• celebrate the impact of women in society today

It’s a meaningful and inspiring day that recognizes the vital role women play in building communities and shaping the future 💛
