On World Humanitarian Day, HDPO honours the courage and dedication of humanitarian workers, volunteers, community leaders, and partners working every day to support people affected by conflict, displacement, disasters, and crisis.

Under the DRR Project, HDPO produced and distributed IEC/BCC materials to reinforce disaster risk reduction and behaviour-change messages across 20 targeted villages in Galabat Eastern and Western Localities, Al Gedaref State.

Field teams distributed and displayed posters, leaflets, and brochures covering key DRR and community risk-awareness messages. Materials were made accessible to households, community focal points, and community spaces.

Implemented by HDPO with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funded by the United Nations Peacekeeping, the intervention contributes to stronger community preparedness, sustained awareness, and locally led DRR approaches.

The activity achieved full geographic coverage, reaching all 10 villages in each locality and ensuring communities had locally relevant reference materials to reinforce key messages beyond training and awareness sessions.

The materials complemented earlier community awareness activities, ToT sessions, and fuel-efficient stove interventions, helping strengthen continuity and consistency of risk-awareness and behaviour-change communication at community level.

Under the DRR Project, HDPO established community-based charcoal-planting associations and delivered a practical Training of Trainers on producing alternative charcoal from agricultural and natural waste across 20 targeted villages in Galabat Eastern and Western Localities, Al Gedaref State.

The activity trained 20 village representatives, with one participant from each targeted village, through practical sessions in Kassab and Doka. Participants were trained as both village-level trainers and founding members of their local charcoal-planting associations.

Implemented by HDPO with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funded by the United Nations Peacekeeping, the initiative contributes to sustainable resource management, environmental protection, local capacity development, and community resilience.

The training focused on practical techniques for converting agricultural residues and natural waste into alternative charcoal, offering communities a more sustainable option to wood charcoal while supporting efforts to reduce pressure on trees and natural resources.

Implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources and the Sudanese Association for Environmental Protection, the activity concluded with a ceremony in Kassab attended by the Ministry’s Executive Director and a community leadership representative.

The 20 trained participants will return to their villages to activate the associations and share their knowledge with community members, extending the intervention beyond the initial participants and strengthening locally led environmental and DRR solutions.

HDPO distributed 2,000 fuel-efficient stoves to registered and verified households across 20 targeted villages in Eastern and Western Localities in Al Gedaref, reaching IDPs, returnees, and host communities.

Each village received 100 stoves, translating earlier community awareness and trainer capacity-building into direct household access to fuel-efficient cooking technology.

Implemented by HDPO with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funded by the United Nations Peacekeeping, the intervention strengthens access to sustainable cooking solutions, community participation, and locally led approaches to reducing pressure on natural resources.

The distribution covered Doka, Seref Bawai, Abu-Arwa, Greeb, Mahala, Al Dawort, Rashid, Um-Rakuba, Tawarit and Al Hamara in Galabat Al Shargia, and Kassab, Um-Belil, Um-Thawani, Al Huri, Tagali, Al Uzaz Sogra, Zarga Donki, Tayaba, Al Saraf and Saboni in Galabat Al Garbia.

HDPO staff and community volunteers supported beneficiary verification, organized distribution points, managed check-in and handover, and maintained signed or thumb-printed records to promote an orderly and accountable process. Beneficiaries also received basic guidance on safe stove use and fuel-saving practices.

HDPO conducted a four-day Training of Trainers on fuel-efficient stove production under the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Project, bringing together 20 representatives from 20 targeted villages across Galabat Eastern and Western in Al Gedaref State.

The training was delivered through practical sessions in Kassab and Doka, focusing on stove design, construction techniques, and the skills needed for participants to replicate the training within their own communities.

Implemented by HDPO with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funded by the United Nations Peacekeeping , the intervention contributes to environmental protection, community resilience, local skills development, and sustainable DRR approaches across the targeted communities.

Rather than relying only on external delivery, the approach is designed to create village-level capacity that can continue beyond the initial activity. Each trained participant will return to their village to share practical stove-making skills with community members, supporting wider adoption of fuel-efficient cooking practices.

The activity also strengthened collaboration between HDPO, the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, and the Sudanese Association for Environmental Protection, while promoting sustainable resource management and reducing pressure on firewood and local environmental resources.

Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) led a drama-based community awareness session in Doka Village, Western Galabat Locality, Al Gedaref State, this week, as part of our ongoing environmental and renewable energy campaign promoting fuel-efficient stoves and sustainable environmental practices.

Implemented with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funding from the United Nations Peacekeeping, under the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) project for conflict-affected communities in Eastern Sudan.

The session brought together 200 community members and was attended by representatives from UNDP, UNHCR, and IOM, alongside a delegation from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation during their visit to Doka. Their presence reflects the growing recognition of HDPO's community-centred programming and its role in advancing locally led resilience and peacebuilding across Eastern Sudan.

Through interactive theatre and participatory engagement, the team strengthened awareness of environmental protection, renewable energy, sustainable natural resource management, and the need to reduce pressure on local resources, all in support of peaceful coexistence and long-term community resilience.

Implemented with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funding from the UN Peacebuilding Fund, under the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) project for conflict-affected communities in Eastern Sudan.

HDPO conducted Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) awareness sessions across 20 villages in Eastern and Western Galabat Al Gedaref state, reaching 50 participants, including community leaders, youth, farmers, pastoralists, and project committee members.

The sessions focused on strengthening understanding of sustainable natural resource management, early warning systems, and community-based conflict mitigation, highlighting how environmental challenges can contribute to local tensions.

The activity is implemented by HDPO with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funded by United Nations Peacekeeping , contributing to improved community resilience and conflict-sensitive resource management.

Participants actively engaged in discussions on land, water, and forest resource management, and committed to sharing knowledge within their communities to promote sustainable practices and peaceful coexistence.

The activity also strengthened collaboration with local authorities, including the Ministry of Production, reinforcing coordinated approaches to resilience-building at community level.
