Alberdi for Peace and Development, along with several other civil society organizations, signed a joint statement on the ongoing war in Sudan, affirming that the continued international silence in the face of these events is no longer acceptable.

After more than three years of war, civilians continue to pay the heaviest price: lives are lost, homes, hospitals, and schools are targeted, and millions live in displacement, hunger, and fear, while violations persist amid impunity and the flow of weapons.

Our signing of this statement is a continuation of our unwavering position: the protection of civilians is not a demand that can be postponed, and justice is not a post-war matter.

We join our voices in demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities, unimpeded humanitarian access, an end to the flow of weapons used against civilians, accountability for perpetrators of war crimes and gross human rights violations, and concrete action against those who contribute to the continuation of the conflict.

For us, there can be no talk of peace in Sudan while the lives of civilians, especially women and girls, continue to be the price of this war.

Joint Statement on the Occasion of World Humanitarian Day

“One Hand Cannot Clap”

On the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, observed on 19 August each year, the organizations signing this statement highlight the hundreds of thousands of volunteers and humanitarian workers women and men who continue, amid crises and conflicts, to provide urgent health care, shelter, food, water, protection, and other life saving services.

In Sudan, where the war continues and humanitarian needs are escalating, humanitarian workers particularly national workers and local volunteers continue to carry out their duties in extremely dangerous conditions, despite being subjected to killing, injury, kidnapping, detention, threats, and obstruction while performing their humanitarian duties.

We affirm that humanitarian workers are not targets, and that protecting those who rush to save the lives of others is a legal and moral responsibility incumbent upon all parties to the conflict. We are deeply concerned about the increasing risks facing humanitarian workers in Sudan, including risks associated with the proliferation and use of armed drones and explosive weapons in populated areas.

Attacks on humanitarian workers do not only kill or injure individuals; their effects extend to thousands of civilians who depend on humanitarian services to survive. Every attack, threat, or obstruction can lead to the suspension or reduction of food and water distribution, health care, and protection operations, and limits the ability of communities to remain resilient and recover.

Women Humanitarian Workers and Volunteers on the Front Lines

We draw particular attention to the multiple risks faced by women humanitarian workers and volunteers, including women in Emergency Response Rooms, takayas, community kitchens, and those working in health, protection, and gender-based violence response.

In addition to the risks of shelling, targeting, detention, and kidnapping, women face additional risks of harassment, violence, exploitation, and threats. This requires protection and response mechanisms that take into account the specific risks faced by women.

Protecting women humanitarian workers and volunteers, and recognizing the vital role of local women led initiatives, is not a marginal issue; rather, it is an essential part of protecting and sustaining the humanitarian response. In many Sudanese communities, women are a critical link in reaching women, girls, children, older persons, and groups most at risk.

Our Demands

Joining our voices with those of humanitarian workers, national and international organizations, and United Nations agencies, we call on all parties to the conflict in Sudan to:

· Immediately stop the war and hostilities in Sudan, end the suffering of civilians, and pave the way for a peaceful solution that preserves the lives and dignity of the Sudanese people.
· Respect and protect civilians and humanitarian and medical workers, and refrain from targeting them in any form.
· Fully comply with international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and ensure the protection of humanitarian workers and medical and humanitarian facilities.
· Allow safe, rapid, and unimpeded humanitarian access to all those in need, free from politicization or discrimination.
· End the arbitrary arrest and detention of humanitarian workers, and immediately release all those detained without legal basis.
· Conduct independent, prompt, effective, and impartial investigations into all violations and attacks targeting humanitarian workers, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law.
· Provide support and protection for survivors and the families of humanitarian workers who have been killed, injured, or kidnapped while performing their duty.
· Provide special protection that responds to the risks faced by women humanitarian workers and volunteers, including safe and confidential reporting pathways for violence, exploitation, and harassment, as well as referral and response for victims.
· Strengthen safety measures for humanitarian workers, including security training, appropriate equipment, evacuation and emergency plans, and mental health and psychosocial support services.
· Support local humanitarian initiatives, particularly those led by women, youth, and local volunteers, as an essential part of the humanitarian response in Sudan.

A Shared Message:-

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan requires greater international, regional, and local solidarity, as well as the protection of those who dedicate their lives to saving the lives of others.

Protecting those who protect life is not a choice it is a shared legal and humanitarian responsibility.

On this day, we salute all humanitarian workers and volunteers in Sudan, and we express our solidarity with the families of those who have lost their lives or been injured, kidnapped, or detained while carrying out their humanitarian duty.

One hand cannot clap.

Through solidarity and joint action, we can protect life and promote human dignity.

Statement by Alberdi Organization for Peace and Development on the (World Humanitarian Day)
August 19

(Every human being is more than a number)

On August 19, Alberdi for Peace and Development, along with its partners, commemorates World Humanitarian Day to honor humanitarian workers and express solidarity with those affected by crises around sudan

When people are in danger, those who rush to their aid should not become targets. Yet, humanitarian workers continue to be killed, injured, abducted, detained, and obstructed while carrying out their work. Most of these workers are national civil servants serving their local communities.

Under international humanitarian law, civilians, including humanitarian and medical personnel, must be respected and protected. Alberdi Organization calls on all war parties in Sudan to allow and facilitate humanitarian access to those in need, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The consequences of attacks on humanitarian workers are not limited to those directly affected; By obstructing the delivery of food, healthcare, protection, and other life-saving services, communities are left with limited means to survive and recover. Concern does not protect, and condemnation is no substitute for accountability.

Remember that behind the numbers are human beings. As we commemorate and honor the humanitarian workers who have been killed, and stand in solidarity with their families, colleagues, and communities, on this World Humanitarian Day, we call on all parties to the conflict in Sudan to:-

Respect and protect civilians and humanitarian and medical personnel.

Allow, facilitate, and ensure safe, rapid, and unimpeded humanitarian access, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Prevent arbitrary arrests and detentions, and release all humanitarian workers unlawfully detained.

Conduct prompt, impartial, and effective investigations into alleged violations and ensure accountability under international law.

Support survivors and the families of humanitarian workers killed or injured.

Strengthen practical measures to protect humanitarian workers, including providing appropriate equipment, technology, and training. Security, mental health services, and psychosocial support

In conclusion
Let us make protecting one another our greatest achievement

Uganda, Kampala 30 /April/ 2026
A Joint Statement from Civil Society Organizations and Media Institutions to Mark the Passage of Three Years Since the Outbreak of War in Sudan

Coinciding with the third anniversary of the outbreak of the war on April 15th 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, human rights violations against civilians by both sides and their allies have increased. These violations have significantly escalated recently, including in areas under the control of both parties.
These violations represent a regression from the commitment to protect civilians and uphold human dignity and rights. Furthermore, the increase in systematic violence against civilians and their properties represent a dangerous trend. These violations and those responsible for them cannot be tolerated, they must be condemned and documented in order to achieve accountability without politicization.
In light of this complex situation, the Darfur Victims Support Organization took the initiative to invite a number of civil society organizations, representatives of some media institutions, and journalists working for peace and the protection of human rights, for the purpose of consulting and coordinating to prepare joint records in order to highlight the violations and the repercussions of the ongoing war in Sudan, in the framework of strategic advocacy efforts.
We, the Sudanese civil society organizations and media institutions that have signed this statement, call the parties of the war and their allies to stop these violations, and to hold their members who are participating in these violations accountable, and to make joint effort to protect civilians and facilities protected under international humanitarian law.
Based on our moral and historical responsibility to protect lives and possessions, we demand the following:
• Opening safe and sustainable safe corridors to allow the passage of aid to those affected, and to allow the unhindered movement of civilians.
• The protection of civilians by strictly adhering to international humanitarian law, and the protection of vital infrastructure such as hospitals and schools.
• Establishing effective mechanisms to ensure accountability and bringing to justice all those found to have committed serious violations, to guarantee redress for victims and compensation for damage.

We affirm that protecting civilians is not an option, but a legal and moral obligation that cannot be postponed or neglected, and that achieving lasting peace remains contingent on ending violations and ensuring accountability and justice.
