🌿 Success in Al Jazeera Aba!
SOS Sahel Sudan is proud to share the achievements of women farmers participating in our project “Strengthening Inclusive Partnerships for Small-Scale Producers in Rainfed Areas” in White Nile State, Rabak Locality.
• 👩‍🌾 We supported 3 women’s vegetable groups (30 women) and the Hope Farm Model Group (10 women) to grow vegetables and jabarik through:
✔️ Training on improved agricultural practices and group management
✔️ Seeds (arugula, carrots, eggplant, peppers, purslane, molokhia, etc.)
✔️ Tools (wheelbarrows, hoes, shovels, sprayers, watering cans, brooms)
✔️ Support landless with land sharing modality, covering rental, preparation, plot division, and irrigation services
🌾 The harvest was a success!
The women achieved self sufficiency, supported their neighbors, and sold the surplus in local markets, improving their income and strengthening community resilience.
Together, we continue empowering small-scale producers and building a stronger future for rural communities in Sudan.

SOS Sahel Sudan’s work in Al Jazira Aba to strengthening women’s economic empowerment. Key achievement highlighted from the monitoring visits as below:
• Al-Amal Women’s Group: 10 women successfully cultivated and harvested purslane, a nutritious leafy vegetable that can be sold in local markets.
• Collective Action (Nafeer system): Another women’s group joined in to help with the harvest. Nafeer is a Sudanese tradition of mutual aid, where community members come together to support one another in labour-intensive tasks.
• Economic Empowerment: By bringing their products to the market, these women are not only generating income but also building confidence and visibility as leaders in local food systems. This Nafeer strengthens resilience, reinforces social bonds, and ensures that women farmers are not isolated in their efforts.
The women’s groups in Al Jazira Aba expressed their deep appreciation for the external support provided by the project’s main stakeholders, SOS Sahel Sudan, the Dutch Embassy-Donor, and the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources-Line ministry. Their contributions added significant value to the project’s outcomes, enhancing both the economic empowerment of women farmers and the sustainability of local agricultural initiatives. This recognition underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in driving meaningful change at the grassroots level.

Key Findings and Outcomes
• Strong organizational practices: Many producer associations were found to be well-organized, holding regular meetings and maintaining consistent monthly contributions.
• Commitment to transparency: Documentation, meeting minutes, and financial records reflected strong accountability and dedication in several groups
Success Story from the Field
As part of the Start-Up Individual Support Initiative under the SIPRA project, one beneficiary shared his experience after receiving harvesting tools valued at approximately 4 million SDG. The support package included sacks, sickles, plastic sheets, and tarpaulins, enabling him to improve post-harvest handling and reduce losses. He explained how selling some of these tools enabled him to purchase additional equipment that supports production and benefits the wider community such as wheelbarrows and barrels. This reinvestment not only expanded his operational capacity but also created shared value for neighbouring farmers.
