Joint Final statement
Human Rights Workshop and International Advocacy Mechanisms
Youth Parliament - Sudan
Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy
4 May 2026
Today marked the conclusion of the specialized training workshop on “Human Rights and International Advocacy Mechanisms,” which was held virtually over two days with the participation of more than 40 human rights organizations and youth groups. These participants are members of the Youth Parliament, which comprises over 100 groups. The workshop aimed to equip Sudanese human rights defenders with tools for monitoring and documentation, and to deepen their understanding of international and regional protection systems (the United Nations and the African Union).
The sessions were enriched by a distinguished group of international experts from the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, Mohamed Salih Mohamed Yassin (PhD), alongside expert Mr. Abdelbagi Jibril, and Mr. Naji Moulay El Hassan (Morocco). The workshop also benefited from the participation of Ambassador Ali bin Abi Talib Al-Jundi, former Representative of Sudan to the Human Rights Council and former Vice-President of the Council.
More than 30 human rights statements reflecting the situation in Sudan were simulated, with appreciation expressed for the readiness of the International Fact-Finding Mission to review the workshop’s outcomes.
Participants adopted plans to engage in the 62nd and 63rd sessions of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and the 82nd session of the African Commission in Banjul.
Among its recommendations, the workshop called for intensified monitoring of human rights violations in Sudan in accordance with international standards; the activation of international advocacy and pressure mechanisms to ensure accountability and reform; efforts toward establishing the “Sudan Human Rights Forum” as an inclusive coordinating platform for defenders; the launch of community-based initiatives to promote the values of justice, equality, and the rule of law; and the continuation of this work with the same determination with which it began.
The Youth Parliament - Sudan and the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy hereby reaffirm their commitment to translating these recommendations into actionable programs and to strengthening partnerships with all international and national stakeholders in order to build a Sudan that upholds human dignity and fundamental freedoms.
