The Zlín State District Archives are located far away on a hill, about an hour from the center of the industrial city of Zlín in the Czech Republic. Inside, there are documents related to the expansion of the BATA company into Sudan, including studies carried out by the company and details of sales. Although elsewhere the factory was connected to processes of mass housing, we have yet to find evidence of this in this context. The factory remains part of one of the earliest pioneers of global shoe production and has successfully established a local identity in each country, leading people to often think of it as a local company.
