Under the leadership of Rowny Jones Vidot, Seychelles chess once had a vibrant and active federation, producing strong performances internationally and introducing chess to many young people who today are prominent adults in Seychellois society. At its peak, dozens of players would gather at Pirates Arms for competitions and training under a strong Federation coach.
It is also notable that the only two arbiters currently on the active FIDE list to officiate official tournaments in Seychelles both emerged from that era, with no new arbiters having since been developed locally.
Despite this, interest in chess remains strong. Recent Victoria Chess Club events have attracted record participation, schools are engaging once again, and a new generation of players is emerging.
Our mission now is simple: rebuild structured, active chess development in Seychelles. Bring the Seychelles flag to continental and regional events.
