When tragedy strikes 💔🌳🔥

For one day and one night, we watched with heavy hearts as parts of Praslin’s forest burned — threatening lives, homes, and precious biodiversity within the National Park.

Forest fires have been part of our history since human settlement on our islands. Over the years, stronger legislation, policies, and public awareness have helped reduce these incidents, but this event is a reminder that our work is far from over.

It reminds us that we must remain vigilant, continue raising awareness, and strengthen our collective efforts to protect our natural environment.

As for us, our commitment remains the same: rehabilitate, reforest, and restore.

Thank you Mrs Evangeline!

We’re very sorry today to hear that Praslin's centenarian Mrs. Evangeline Joubert has passed away.

Mrs. Joubert made her first visit to TRASS early this year, where she expressed great joy and admiration for the many varieties of endemic trees in our nursery. She even took part in potting an endemic 'bois kwiyer', a moment that made her visit especially meaningful to all who were present.
Mrs Joubert celebrated her 103rd birthday this year and was well-known in our community. We extend our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.

🌿Another plant enthusiast!

We were excited recently to host Professor Karl Fleischmann of ETH Zurich, along with his wife Edith, at our nursery.
With our team being comprised of only volunteers, the visitors were impressed by the rich variety of fruit trees and the continued propagation of endemic species. 🌱🌿
Every TRASS volunteer has to have general knowledge of plants of Seychelles?

The sky has open! ☂️💧

2025 was a hard year with the dry period being a harsh one for all. The extent of the drought can still be seen and felt.

And so, we are grateful for the rain. Let the planting season begin! 💪💚

Look who's back!🤪

🌱 In July, we ended the planting season with a wonderful group of volunteers from La Pirogue. Now that the rains have arrived, it was only fitting that they returned to plant a second round of 300 seedlings at the same site.

Due to the exceptionally dry period on Praslin this year, many of the earlier seedlings did not survive. That’s why we were ecstatic to welcome the team back on site — their support is invaluable.

Restoration takes hard work and determination. It also requires ongoing maintenance, such as removing invasive species, but most importantly, it takes time. Only time will show that our efforts on Praslin have not been in vain.

💚 So don’t feel discouraged if your own garden struggles — nature needs patience.
👉 And if you’d like to join us as a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you!

Caecilians are every gardener’s hidden ally 🌱🐍.

Living underground, they aerate the soil and feed on pests like termites and ants—keeping gardens healthy and balanced.

Please don’t harm them; they are vital for the ecosystem and deserve our protection.

Fun fact: There are several species of Caecilians in Seychelles, including a rare and mysterious one recently discovered on Mahe. Could this be a rare species?

Help us uncover its identity—drop your thoughts below!

🌳✨ The world needs more people who admire trees, who take the time to plant them, reintroduce them into our forests, and protect them. People who give their time freely — without expecting anything in return — to save our precious plants.

💚 Shoutout to all our incredible volunteers! You are the heartbeat of our mission, and because of you, our forests have a chance to thrive again.

If you feel called to make a difference, DM us — the world needs more people like YOU. 🌍💪
