We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the first-ever training session of its kind in Seychelles, held on Thursday, 16 April and Friday, 17 April 2026, at Dan Sours Agroforest in Baie Lazare.
This informative two day program focused on vermiponics and the practical implementation of circular agriculture practices, equipping participants with advanced knowledge and hands-on skills for sustainable agriculture. The session underscored innovative techniques to enhance food security, reduce waste, and promote regenerative farming, vital for Seychelles’ eco-tourism sector, hospitality innovations, and marine/island conservation efforts.
Heartfelt gratitude to our exceptional trainer, Gabriel Bedoy from La Ferme du Quartier, France, whose expertise elevated the experience.
Warm shoutouts to dedicated attendees and partners, including representatives from (Ministry of Environment), Agriculture department, and the
This landmark initiative is a collaborative project by Baie Lazare Watershed Committee and GAEA Seychelles, generously funded by CEPF ( ). Together, we’re pioneering a greener future!

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) project, led by GAEA Seychelles and the Baie Lazare Watershed Committee , is inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards through immersive, hands-on conservation training.
A highlight: Beaver Dam Analog (BDA) workshops for youths and staff from the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) , building skills in watershed management and innovative ecosystem practices.
BDAs mimic beaver dams to slow water flow, curb erosion, boost retention, revive streams, create habitats, and enable sustainable food production.
Even heavy rain could not dampen their teamwork and enthusiasm—proving youth engagement is vital for lasting conservation.
Guided by GAEA Seychelles and partners, this initiative is forging skilled leaders to safeguard watersheds for generations.

Meet Paris Lautee, a dedicated University of Seychelles student aspiring to become a Marine Biologist. Her curiosity led her beyond the oceans to explore the hidden wonders of Seychelles’ rivers.
“Hi!, Paris here (on the left). The river survey is indeed an adventure worth taking! Exploring places you’ve never been to before, and learning new things, such as the different species of river inhabitants and how they live. Much of which may come as a surprise. Getting to do the biodiversity assessment of the Caiman River taught me that in a river there is always more than what meets the eye.”

Paris’s journey shows how rivers hold secrets as vital as the sea proving there’s endless discovery in our own backyards. What adventure will spark your curiosity?

Meet Timothy Francoise, a young man who discovered his true passion for nature after volunteering on river surveys with GAEA Seychelles.
In his own words: “I found it to be a broadening experience informative, engaging, and collaborative. There were strong and willing efforts from the entire team; everyone brought their rigor and experience, both theoretical and hands-on, which I appreciated immensely.”

Timothy, also dedicated freelance graphics designer and small business entrepreneur, brought his creative expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to our team.

Stories like Timothy’s remind us how one volunteer opportunity can ignite a lifelong commitment to conservation.

Who’s next to join the mission?

The Baie Lazare Watershed Commiittee in collaboration with Gaea Seychelles undertakes the first training in Seychelles on Beaver dam analogs (BDAs). BDAs are human-made, permeable structures designed to mimic the form and function of natural beaver dams to restore river ecosystems. They slow water flow to reduce erosion, raise water tables, re-establish wetlands, enhance habitat for aquatic wildlife, trap sediment to improve water quality and reduce flooding. The training was done with participants from the Seychelles National Younth Council (SNYC) with funding from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
