Indigenous Land Owners Alliance - ILOA
Touching the Foundations of our nation:
The Indigenous Land Owners Alliance (ILOA) operates on a bi-partisan principle, transcending political divides to prioritize the pillars of our platform: the return of indigenous lands, utilization of Solomon Islands labor, and decentralization of government. We firmly believe that these issues are paramount for the p
rosperity and well-being of all Solomon Islanders, irrespective of political affiliation. Key Pillars of the platform:
Return of Indigenous Lands: Advocating for the rightful return of lands to Solomon Islanders, acknowledging historical injustices and dispossession faced by indigenous communities due to the erosion of land rights. It emphasizes the importance of land as not just a resource but also a cornerstone of identity, culture, and livelihoods, proposing transparent and equitable processes to restore ownership and control of lands to indigenous peoples. Utilization of Solomon Islands Labor: Emphasizing the need to harness the skills and potential of the Solomon Islands labor force, particularly addressing the historical exploitation of Malaitan labor. The proposal includes establishing the Malaita Futures Fund to invest in Malaita's development, prioritize local employment opportunities, and ensure that the benefits of Malaitan labor remain within the Malaitan community. Decentralization of Government: Advocating for a decentralized governance system that empowers provinces and local communities to make decisions impacting their lives. It acknowledges longstanding calls for autonomy from provinces and commits to setting a serious national process for achieving decentralization, aiming to foster greater autonomy, accountability, and participatory democracy while tailoring solutions to local needs.
