πŸ›‘οΈ Building a Safer Future: SINYC Safeguarding Practicum! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡§

Our SINYC staff have just wrapped up an intensive and eye-opening first two days of our Safeguarding Practicum!

These two days have been dedicated to strengthening our internal policies, understanding professional boundaries, and ensuring every member of our team is equipped to create a secure environment for the youth of the Solomon Islands.

A massive shout-out to our facilitators, Karen Roga (SINYC National Coordinator) and Shona Fafale (NEC Board Treasurer), for leading these vital sessions.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the ASIPS team and Nicholas - the ASIPS Safeguards Capacity Building Coordinator, for joining us to assess our Practicum and provide the toolkit we need to ensure we are well-equipped.

Upholding high standards of safety and well-being for our youth is not just a priorityβ€”but must be the guiding principle of our organizational culture.

We leave this practicum with a shared mission: to ensure that every young person in our programs is supported by an organization that puts their safety first. πŸ›‘οΈπŸ’ͺ

Rarumana β€” you were amazing! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡§βœ¨

Our trip to Rarumana was one for the history books! The team was blown away by the grand welcome at the shores of Vunerima. Our guests β€” MWYCFA Permanent Secretary (PS) and the Deputy Provincial Secretary (DPS) β€” were paddled ashore on a traditional Tomoko by the Rarumana youth, a powerful display of culture and community pride.

Check out this amazing reel below, captured and created by the talented Rarumana Youth! πŸŽ₯πŸ‘‡

Highlights from our day in the Vonavona Constituency:

Official Handover: After the beautiful welcome ceremony, we moved into the formal handover for the Rarumana project sites.

Site Visits: It was a busy day visiting the new facilities at Meoko, Belona, and Suitonami, plus a visit to see the seaweed farms.

Community Leadership: What made the day truly special was seeing the community elders and youth committees standing together, ready to take full responsibility for these new business ventures.

We couldn't have done this without our partners at Plan International Solomon Islands, who were right there with us on the ground.

A massive "tagio tumas" to the people of Rarumana for such an unforgettable welcome and for showing us what youth-led change really looks like!

πŸ“’ Wednesday Recap (Gizo & Paelonge)

Transforming Communities: A Massive Day of Action in Gizo & Paelonge! πŸ› οΈπŸŒŠ

Last Wednesday we held our formal official opening ceremony in Gizo to transition the project facilities and equipment into the care of local youth associations.
We were honored to have the Western Provincial Youth Council (WPYC) President Langi Sunga serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the entire program, guiding us through these important proceedings.

Our team led by the Honourable Minister Cathy Nori, spent the day conducting ribbon-cutting ceremonies across Ward 11, Gizo town, and the West Gizo/Paelonge area:

πŸ‘•πŸ“Ώ Malakerava 3 Youth: Printing and Jewelry-making equipment.

πŸ—‘πŸ₯«Gizo Top Hill & TC Youth: Aluminum can recycling support.

πŸŸπŸ¦‘Simboro, Suvania, and Paelonge Youth: Fisheries storage facilities.

🐝🍯Tiroduke Youth: Beekeeping/Apiculture equipment.

Seeing these young entrepreneurs step up to lead these businesses is exactly why we do this work.

SINYC were also incredibly proud to officially hand over digital resources for the soon-to-open Provincial Youth Centre. This includes a Starlink system, a TV screen, and laptops, which will serve as the foundation for the Resource Cornerβ€”ensuring our youth have the tools they need to stay connected and informed.

Thank you to our partners at Plan International Solomon Islands for helping make these livelihood opportunities a reality!

Strengthening Partnerships for the Future! 🀝

🌊 Last week began with a significant milestone as we traveled to the Western Province of SolomonIslands. We were honored to be accompanied by Hon. Minister Cathy Nori and Permanent Secretary Aaron Pitaqae of the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children, and Family Affairs (MWYCFA).

Highlights from last Tuesday:

Our team paid a courtesy call to the Western Provincial Government. It was a privilege for Minister Nori and PS Pitaqae to lead the mission and formally convey our sincere gratitude to the Western Provincial Government for their support throughout the GTACC project.

The team provided a brief overview of the GTACC project to date that set the stage for a critical discussion on the long-term sustainability of the GTACC initiative, ensuring the benefits continue to serve our youth for years to come.

We visited the site of the upcoming Provincial Youth Centre. It’s inspiring to see this space take shapeβ€”soon to be home to a new Climate Change Resource Corner, equipped with digital tools to help our youth innovate and a dedicated office space for our Western Provincial Youth Council.

We wrapped up the day with a formal Opening Dinner, bringing together our partners and stakeholders to align our vision.

When leaders and youth work together, change happens. Stay tuned as we recap the rest of our mission from last week!

What an incredible way to close out 2025!

The SINYC team has just returned from our Year-End Review and Team-Building Retreat at the breathtaking Olotsara in West Guadalcanal. 🌊🏝️

We took time to reflect on our 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, GTACC and YECA project achievements, deepened our grasp of essential organization policies set to launch next year, discussed bold priorities for 2026, and forged stronger bonds through team activities with our families.

Refreshed, united, and more energised – the mission feels immense, but we're fully committed and ready to take on the challenges in the years ahead! πŸ’ͺπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›
