Empowering Isabel: The 2025 Intergenerational Climate Microgrants Illuminates Kosisi, Lelegia and Talise long term plans.
In a significant stride towards sustainable development, the 2025 Intergenerational Climate Microgrant has been awarded to the project titled "Empowering Isabel; Harnessing Solar Energy for a Sustainable Future" in the Kosisi, Lelegia, and Talise communities of the Solomon Islands. This initiative stands as a beacon of hope and progress, aiming to replace conventional energy reliance with clean, solar-powered solutions.
The heart of this project focuses on equipping community halls a vital venues for gatherings and significant events in these neighborhoods—with solar energy systems. By transitioning to solar power, these communities are not only promoting environmental awareness but also advancing cost-saving measures and energy independence.
Chiefs and elders from the communities have expressed profound gratitude to the Network for the indigenous peoples Solomons (NIPS) for their support. The installation of these solar sets is seen as a symbol of empowerment and progress.
Aydah Akao, the recipient of this initiative, highlighted that the project marks the beginning of a long-term partnership. “This is not just an immediate solution; it's a commitment to a sustainable future,” she noted, underscoring the enduring impact of the collaboration between local communities and international partners.
Through these efforts, the Kosisi, Lelegia, and Talise communities are set to lead by example, illustrating the power of clean energy as a catalyst for environmental resilience and self-sufficiency. The microgrant underscores a global acknowledgment of the critical role of local communities in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
