Today we conducted an awareness and consultation session for farmer representatives of our target communities in North, Central and Northeast Guadalcanal. The awareness session aims to inform our participants on the findings of a survey done by Ola Fou on the Honiara Fresh Produce Supply Chain. The survey aims to gain insights into the supply chain of the Honiara fresh produce market considering experience, needs and preferences as Ola Fou seeks to establish a Social Enterprise. The survey identifies key topics and issues for the development of training materials and gathers data for setting up (including formalizing) a producer supply group to supply the Honiara formal market for fresh produce. Big thanks to all target farmers for their participation and contributions during the session.

Ola Fou and its SAFE Program partners HOPE Trust hosted a group of Tearfund NZ Supporters on the week 6th - 11th October 2025. The week-long engagement includes community visits to see project sites and touch base with project participants, interaction with stakeholders including government agencies and a courtesy visit to the NZHC Post in Honiara.

The group were very grateful and have all been challenged, inspired and encouraged about how both organisations uplift and empower individuals and their communities.

We are grateful to MFAT and TFNZ for their support in enabling us to serve vulnerable communities in the Solomon Islands.

Ola Fou Solomons Participates in Endline Evaluation of Crossroads and SAFE Programs

Ola Fou Solomons successfully took part in the endline evaluation of two key initiatives: the Crossroads Project, supported by Tearfund Australia and Tearfund NZ, and the SAFE Program, funded by MFAT in partnership with Tearfund NZ. The evaluation was conducted from 8–12 September 2025, in collaboration with our SAFE Program partners, HOPE (Homes of Hope and Peace) Trust.

The evaluation provided an invaluable opportunity for reflection and learning, as Ola Fou and HOPE Trust worked closely with the external evaluator to coordinate the in-country visit and ensure smooth logistical support.

Ola Fou Solomons acknowledges with gratitude the vital contributions of our target communities and stakeholders, whose cooperation and commitment were instrumental to the success of this important process.

Looking ahead, Ola Fou Solomons remains committed to strengthening youth and community development, building resilience, and fostering partnerships that bring lasting positive impact to vulnerable communities across the Solomon Islands.

Ola Fou Solomons was fortunate to be part of this training through our Agriculture Field Officer, Mr. James Tanavalu. The training was a first of its kind to be conducted in the Solomon Islands. Thanks to our partners Kastom Garden Association (KGA) for extending the invitation.

| 🌿 🇸🇧 Farmers, youth, women, and agriculture officers from all over are coming together this week at the Zai Na Tina Organic Farm to learn the art of vermicomposting 🪱using earthworms to turn everyday farm and kitchen waste into nutrient-rich compost.

This practical, low-cost solution improves soil health and reduces dependence on imported fertilizers and strengthens climate resilience for our Pacific communities. By building skills in organic farming, we are walking alongside farmers to take real steps towards healthier soils, stronger harvests, and more food security for families and communities.

🤝 This training is made possible through collaboration between the Pacific-Community-SPC POETCom, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Solomon Islands, with funding from the Kiwa Initiative through the Pacific Organic Learning Farms Network (POLFN) Project. The is funded by the European Union in the Pacific AFD - Agence Française de Développement Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and its implementing partners in the region are Pacific-Community-SPC Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme - SPREP and IUCN Oceania
