✅ That’s a wrap on an intense and rewarding week in Brussels for ECCKSA!
How can EBOs help drive European competitiveness? That was the central question at the heart of the EBO Worldwide Network 2026 Annual Conference, which concluded at the European Commission after five days of substantive engagement with EU institutions.
Over the course of the week, ECCKSA joined EBO representatives from around the world for meetings with European Commission departments, including DG TRADE, DG GROW, DG MENA, DG ENER, and others, as well as Commissioners’ cabinets, Members of the European Parliament, the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), and BusinessEurope. A rare and valuable opportunity to bring the voice of European companies operating in Saudi Arabia directly to EU policymakers, and to exchange best practices across the global network of EU Chambers of Commerce.
ECCKSA also had the opportunity to contribute to the programme, sharing insights on the Gulf region and the European business landscape in Saudi Arabia.
The week closed on a particularly positive note for EU-Saudi relations, with the election of our CEO Kristijonas Gedvilas to the EBOWN Board of Directors, a milestone that reflects the growing importance of the Gulf in the European business landscape.

🇪🇺 ECCKSA CEO Kristijonas Gedvilas Elected to the Board of the EBO Worldwide Network 👏

During the Annual General Assembly of the European Business Organisation Worldwide Network (EBOWN) in Brussels, Mr. Kristijonas Gedvilas, CEO of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (ECCKSA), was elected to its Board of Directors.

The appointment reflects ECCKSA’s expanding impact as a driver of European business engagement in Saudi Arabia, alongside a shared commitment to building stronger, more strategic cooperation among European Business Organisations (EBOs) globally.

Founded in 2011, EBOWN has since grown to unite officially recognised, independent European chambers of commerce across more than 60 key markets globally. Each organisation serves as the primary representative platform for European businesses, collaborating with EU Delegations and local government stakeholders to deliver on-the-ground expertise, facilitate market engagement, and foster structured dialogue that drives mutual economic growth.

Through this mandate, ECCKSA looks forward to reinforcing coordination across the global EBO network, championing practical partnerships between markets, and further strengthening the voice and positioning of European business in key international economies. Together, we aim to shape a more connected, collaborative, and prosperous international economic landscape.

🇪🇺 This week, ECCKSA is participating in the EBOWN (European Business Organisation Worldwide Network) annual meeting at the European Commission. EBOWN brings together EBO delegates from over 59 countries worldwide, all working to represent their members’ interests before EU institutions.

This year’s theme: “How can EBOs help drive European competitiveness?”

ECCKSA is holding meetings with European Commission departments, Commissioners’ cabinets, and Members of the European Parliament, a key opportunity to bring the voice of European companies operating in Saudi Arabia directly to EU policymakers, and to exchange best practices across the network of EU Chambers of Commerce.

The EU-Saudi Arabia relationship is built on shared economic interests and long-term partnerships. Weeks like this remind us why that dialogue matters, and why ECCKSA’s mission to share European business priorities with EU institutions remains as relevant as ever.

Having joined the network as newcomers last year, it is genuinely encouraging to see new chambers joining the EBOWN family this year. A growing network is a stronger network, and a reflection of how far European business presence continues to reach across the world.

🇪🇺🇸🇦 From Foundation to Growth: ECCKSA Enters a New Chapter

Two years ago, the European Chamber of Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was founded on a vision: to give European businesses a unified voice in one of the world’s most dynamic economies.

That vision became reality thanks to the founding Board of Directors 2024-2026, whose work laid the institutional foundations ECCKSA now stands on. A particular word of thanks goes to our Chairman, Lorcan Tyrrell, whose leadership shaped the Chamber from its very first days. 👏

None of this would have been possible without the steadfast support of the EU Delegation to Saudi Arabia, and in particular EU Ambassador H.E. Christophe Farnaud, and the trade section led by Timo Hammaren, and previously Dr. Thomas Juergensen whose commitment to ECCKSA’s mission, day in and day out, has been instrumental in building the Chamber we are today.

ECCKSA Energy Committee Meeting | Tuesday, 19 May
Today, the European Chamber of Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (ECCKSA) convened its Energy Committee, graciously hosted at the EDF Offices in Riyadh.

Led by Committee Co-Chairs Omar AlDaweesh (CEO, EDF KSA) and Aziz Reguig (Managing Director, Fives Group), the session brought together industry leaders and EU representatives to outline the Committee’s strategic vision and upcoming workplan.

A major highlight of the meeting was a joint session with Mr. Matteo Fumerio from DG ENER (European Commission), as well as Mr. Timo Hammarén, Head of Trade Section at the EU Delegation to Saudi Arabia.

Exchanges focused on the high-level macro trends shaping the region. Members and institutional partners discussed energy export diversification, local industrial transformation, and the strategic role European technologies can play in supporting the Kingdom’s shift toward low-carbon industrial production.

We were pleased to count on the participation and on-the-ground insights of COPA-DATA, Danfoss, EDF, Elia Grid International (EGI), ENGIE, Fives, Indra Group, Omexom, Siemens Energy, SLB, TYPSA, and others.

🏥 MISA Healthcare Department Joins ECCKSA Healthcare Committee Working Dinner
On Sunday 10 May, executives from European healthcare companies active in Saudi Arabia gathered for a working dinner of the ECCKSA Healthcare Committee.

We were honoured to welcome the MISA Healthcare Department, represented by Dr. Mobarak AlMulhim, Executive Advisor, who provided insight into MISA’s priorities and vision for the sector.
This working dinner is the latest step in a journey that began with a Healthcare Roundtable last year, continued through a dedicated session at Global Health Exhibition, and was further shaped through a series of internal working meetings, each building towards the formal launch of the ECCKSA Healthcare Committee.
Participants shared their perspectives on key opportunities and challenges in healthcare in the Kingdom, and contributed to shaping the strategic direction of the newly formalised Committee.The discussion was practical, open, and forward-looking, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing healthcare investment and strengthening long-term cooperation between Europe and Saudi Arabia.

🚆✈️🛣️ National Center for Privatization & PPP (NCP) Hosts ECCKSA Transport & Logistics members

The National Center for Privatization & PPP (NCP) and members of the ECCKSA had a focused and constructive exchange discussion. The session brought together leaders from Alstom, ARX | smart minds, BNP Paribas, DHL Global Forwarding Saudi Arabia, Indra Group, Lamar Holding, Siemens Mobility, TYPSA, Valtus Alliance, and others, creating a valuable platform for dialogue on the Kingdom’s privatisation and PPP agenda. NCP provided a clear overview of its mandate, priorities, and role in advancing Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation, while ECCKSA members shared perspectives from across the transport and logistics ecosystem.

The discussion was practical, engaging, and forward-looking, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting investment, enabling business growth, and strengthening long-term cooperation between Europe and Saudi Arabia.
