We are truly proud that Nature Rwanda has been selected as one of the new Forest Impact Accelerator Partners. 🎉

This milestone represents an exciting opportunity to strengthen our commitment to protecting and restoring Busaga Forest while empowering and engaging the surrounding communities. Through our initiative; Nature Positive Financing for Community Led Conservation of Busaga Forest, we aim to show how nature-based enterprises can drive both environmental and economic resilience.

By the end of this project, we envision a thriving landscape where local households embrace agroforestry practices, transforming degraded land into productive and sustainable livelihoods. Strengthened VSLAs will provide community members with better access to savings and small loans, enabling them to diversify their income and build a more secure future. In parallel, an eco-tourism feasibility study will guide the development of the Busaga Environmental Education and Visitor Center, creating new opportunities for learning, recreation, and community engagement.

We see this as the beginning of a long-term journey toward resilient communities, healthy forests, and sustainable income for all. 🌿🤝

Today, as part of the ISO Annual Meeting, Rwanda launched its updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP); a landmark step for safeguarding ecosystems and building climate-resilient communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to speak at the event and share how civil society organizations collaborate with national institutions to support priorities like the NBSAP.

Nature Rwanda is proud to have been engaged from the design phase and is now ready to contribute to its implementation. Our contribution will more actively focus on protecting threatened species and their habitats, restoring degraded landscapes to enhance biodiversity and climate resilience, advocating for effective policies, and raising awareness through education and community engagement. These interventions demonstrate how science, community action, and policy combine to deliver measurable impact.

With the support of visionary partners, we can expand these efforts, safeguard our natural ecosystems, and ensure that both people and nature thrive together.

💚 Together, donors, government, NGOs, and communities can turn ambition into action for a sustainable future.

Yesterday, we kicked off a 15-day Financial Literacy Training for the committees of Community Loans and Savings Groups who are at the forefront of our landscape restoration efforts in Rusizi District.
A total of 45 leaders; 18 from Bweyeye Sector and 27 from Butare Sector will acquire knowledge and skills that they will transfer to their groups, strengthening sustainable governance and financial management within the Saving Groups.

Participants will explore six modules:
1️⃣ Personal Financial Management – “Use Money Wisely”
2️⃣ Savings – “You Can Do It!”
3️⃣ Loan Management – “Handle with Care”
4️⃣ Investment – “Let Your Money Grow”
5️⃣ Insurance – “Protect Your Family’s Future”
6️⃣ Financing Green Livelihoods – “Invest in a Sustainable Future”

At Nature Rwanda, we believe that true conservation begins with empowered communities. By providing these essential tools for financial literacy, we are enabling community members to make sound decisions that not only uplift their lives but also protect local natural resources. This is about more than just money; it's about dignity, self-reliance, and the connection between human well-being and a thriving landscapes.

We extend our deepest gratitude to for their visionary support, and to BirdLife International Africa, our implementing partner. Your commitment makes stories like these possible, transforming lives and landscapes.

When communities thrive, landscapes heal. Together, we are ensuring both people and nature flourish. 🌱

Today, Saturday 6 September 2025, we mark . Vultures are nature’s clean-up crew, preventing disease and recycling nutrients, yet many species are in decline. Rwanda hosts six vulture species; four are globally threatened, including the Critically Endangered Hooded Vulture. Crucially, vital habitat often lies beyond protected areas. At Gataraga, beside the local market, more than 30 Hooded Vultures gather daily, now safeguarded by the same community that once viewed them with suspicion.

Read our call for site-specific action and how markets, butcheries, and landfills can be managed as safe spaces for both vultures and people: https://www.naturerwanda.org/vultures-beyond-protected-areas-a-call-for-site-specific-conservation-action/

Though they soar majestically across the skies, vultures remain one of the most misunderstood birds. They serve as nature's most efficient cleanup crew, providing indispensable ecosystem services that include disease prevention and nutrient cycling. 🌱 At Nature Rwanda, we believe restoration starts at home, right where people live.

In Bweyeye, local farmers are stepping up as Restoration Champions, reviving their soils, protecting river catchments, and safeguarding - home to 13 primate species, over 300 bird species, and over 85 mammal species, some of which found nowhere else.

Together with BirdLife International Africa, we are proud to walk alongside these communities as they show that Lanscape restoration is also restoration of their hope in the face of climate change impacts.

✨ This week, we celebrate this journey.
