Earlier this month, our team attended the launch of the Africa Food Systems (AFS) Forum summit to celebrate 20 years.

Themed “Investing in Africa’s Agri-Food Systems: Nourishing Nations, Growing Jobs, Building Resilience” the AFS summit aims to engage relevant stakeholders to move from dialogue to delivery and impact.

The Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGR I), Dr. Telesphore Ndabamenye, and the AFS Managing Director, Amath Pathe Sene, highlighted that celebrating two decades of existence also prompts the urgency to measurable and intentional action towards food and nutrition security on the continent.

The summit will take place from September 1st - 5th in Kigali, Rwanda.

Recently, our team visited Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA) for a practical training on conservation agriculture. Our team engaged in hands-on learning, including transplanting in greenhouses and exploring better ways to improve vegetable farming.

The training focused on simple but vital practices such as improving soil health, reducing soil erosion, managing water better, and protecting biodiversity. These are key steps toward building stronger and more sustainable food systems.

We are grateful to for the learning experience and for sharing valuable knowledge with our team. Together, we continue working toward healthier communities and a greener future.

Today marks the beginning of 100 days of commemoration in Rwanda. We are honoring and remembering the lives lost in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

‘Kwibuka32’ calls for the continued pact to Remember, Unite and Renew. Today, we remember our past as we continue to cultivate a future rooted in dignity and resilience.

In celebration of , let's take a moment to appreciate the vital role water plays in our everyday lives, especially when it comes to tackling malnutrition among children around the world. Good sanitation and hygiene are super important for the health and happiness of moms and their little ones. We're excited to spread the word about the significance of cleaning toilets, washing hands, and preparing food safely. This day is a reminder that access to clean water is essential for family growth and child development.

In the past two weeks, we conducted the ‘Men's Engagement’ training in the Gasabo and Burera Districts. As part of our Maternal and Child Nutrition Programme (MNP), we include the mothers’ husbands and partners to ensure a holistic approach to fostering household nutrition.

We trained 276 men on nutrition-responsive health and agriculture practices. They learned how to prepare a balanced diet using the ‘One-Pot One -Hour’, a technique that demonstrates ways to prepare healthy food using limited resources. The men were also trained on establishing home gardens and compost piles for replication at home.

We appreciate the men’s active involvement in ensuring good nutrition outcomes for their families. Their commitment to working together with their partners remains essential even to their family dynamics.
