On 9 January 2026, APEFA, in collaboration with Nyanza District, officially validated the detailed design for the Akaziga Marshland Rehabilitation Project during a stakeholder validation meeting held in Nyanza District.

Funded by the Rwanda Green Fund and implemented by APEFA, the project aims to restore and sustainably manage Akaziga Marshland, addressing degradation caused by poor water management, erosion, and unsustainable land use. Through this initiative, environmental conservation will go hand in hand with productive agriculture, strengthening food security and improving community livelihoods.

Peer-to-Peer Learning for a Greener Future! 🌱🌍

APEFA’s Project Implementation Manager, Eric SIBOMANA, is proudly representing the Organization at the ongoing Lake Kivu & Rusizi (LKR) Peer-to-Peer Landscape Learning Exchange in Nyabihu, Rwanda.
Restoration champions from across the landscape have gathered for four days of field-based learning, mentorship, and collaboration. Hosted by Wildlife Conservation Initiative (WCI), with peer leadership from RDIS, BIOCOOR, and OSEPCCA, this exchange puts local champions at the center of restoration action. This is where learning meets the land.

Day 1 Highlights

Day 1 kicked off with great energy as champions from across Rwanda came together to share their restoration journeys, strengthen collaboration, and build practical skills that drive greener and more inclusive landscapes.

Day 2 in the Field

“Hands in the soil, knowledge in action.”
Day 2 featured powerful field demonstrations in nursery management, riparian restoration, and peer-led problem-solving, showcasing how learning by doing accelerates impact and transforms landscapes from the ground up.
