German Sparkassenstiftung Eastern Africa We pursue to improve lives by sustainably promoting financial inclusion in Eastern Africa. Think globally, act locally, cooperate internationally.

In 1992, Germanyโ€™s Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe established the "Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung fรผr internationale Kooperation e.V." (DSIK), respectively "German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation" in English . German Sparkassenstiftung is actively supporting stakeholders in the financial sector all over the world, promoting a sustainable development at local, national and regional level. By strengthening decentral financial structures and facilitating access, uptake and
usage of quality financial services, DSIK ultimately contributes to the generation of jobs and development options for broad segments of the population. This mirrors the approach that has been pursued by the German Sparkassen Banks since their establishment around 200 years ago. It exerts a stabilizing effect on the financial sector and the overall economic development in the respective country. German Sparkassenstiftung Eastern Africa works on partnership projects that focus on strengthening of the microfinance sector and vocational education. Currently, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is financially supporting two Regional Projects for the Eastern African countries Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The two Regional Projects are "Vocational and Commercial Education" and "Rural Development through Institutional Strengthening". The transboundary project approach facilitates the exchange between the neighboring countries. Overall, DSIK has been permanently active in Rwanda since 2009, in Burundi and Tanzania since 2012, in Uganda since 2018 and in Kenya since 2019.

As we continue celebrating World Savings Day 2026 under the theme "AI advises, human decides" weโ€™re showcasing how DSIK and its partners are making a difference through across .
๐Ÿ“Š The 2025 impact speaks for itself:
๐Ÿ”น 84,075 people reached with financial education.
๐Ÿ”น 61% of those reached were women.
๐Ÿ”น 18% were young people.
๐Ÿ”น Over 80% of surveyed participants reported increased saving after the interventions.
๐Ÿ”น Over 90% reported improved access to financial services.
๐Ÿ”น Over 95% of surveyed youth reported increased saving.

Through savings games, savings clubs, financial education programmes and digital platforms, we are helping people turn financial knowledge into informed decisions and lasting habits.

Yesterday we kicked off a three-day training on Savings Mobilisation, Liquidity Management and Lending to Savings Groups, organized by DSIK and Rwanda Cooperative Agency-RCA .

Branch managers and loan officers from the Rwamagana and Musanze DSACCOs are taking part in sessions running through Thursday, 15 October at CELA, Kigali.
The training covers practical approaches to mobilising savings, strengthening liquidity management, and designing responsible lending to savings groups.

As part of the Isoko Irama project, DSIK organised a financial literacy training in Matongo, Butanyerera Province, from 5th to 9th October for members of VSLAs.
24 participants, with 3 representatives from each VSLA, strengthened their knowledge and skills in budgeting, saving and the responsible use of credit.

The training highlighted why sound financial management matters for running associations well and growing economic activities. Participants will now share what they learned with fellow VSLA members, helping build financial capacity across their communities.

Honored to take part in the CAFE (City Academy of Finance and Equity) Kigali workshop, organized by C40 Cities and GIZ Rwanda through the Climate Sensitive, Socially Just Planning and Housing (CSPH) Programme.
The workshop brings together the City of Kigali, Secondary and Satellite Cities, Rwanda Housing Authority, Development Bank of Rwanda "BRD" PLC, AFD - Agence Franรงaise de Dรฉveloppement, EarthEnable, Rwanda Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, and other partners to explore innovative, sustainable financing solutions for affordable housing.

CAFE helps participants share knowledge and deepen their understanding of financing instruments, project preparation, and inclusive climate action, so sustainable, equitable and affordable housing can reach all Rwandans.
Together, we are building stronger partnerships and practical solutions to transform Rwanda's housing sector and support inclusive urban development.
