Dear friends,

This is a special moment for Emmi and Jeane, two inspiring women with disabilities from Rwanda, who are about to represent their country at the AfrOstrava Festival in Czechia. 🌍✈️ Their journey is more than just travel — it’s a powerful step in showing that disability is not inability.

They need help covering the costs of flights and travel so they can share their stories, culture, and talent on an international stage for the very first time. This experience will open new doors for them and help spread the message that everyone deserves a chance to shine.

Any support, big or small, makes a difference in making this life-changing trip possible. Please consider donating or sharing to help us reach this goal and give Emmi and Jeane the opportunity they deserve. Thank you so much!

Wonderful news from talkingthroughart.org

Emmi and Jeane have officially received their Schengen visas and are now ready to travel to the Czech Republic to represent Talking Through Art and Rwanda at the AfrOstrava Festival from 14.8 to 15.8 in Ostrava, Czech Republic

This will be their very first international work trip, and we are incredibly proud and excited for them. During their two weeks in the Czech Republic, they will not only participate in the festival, but also visit beautiful Prague, the heart of Europe, and the lovely town of Písek.

We would also love to organize a special day to meet our followers, supporters, and friends who may be in the Czech Republic at that time. More details will come soon!

Yesterday we had such a wonderful cooking class, learning how to make pita bread with Baba Ghanoush — a creamy, smoky dip made from roasted eggplant, tahini, garlic, and olive oil. Thank you, Janviere, for spending the evening with us and teaching us how to make this tasty and delicious dinner. We enjoyed every moment together, from cooking to sharing the meal. ❤️
At Talking Through Art, we regularly provide classes in education, cooking, and many other useful topics for our ladies. Through these activities, they continue learning valuable skills, building confidence, and supporting one another in a warm and creative community.

This August, these two incredible women from Talking Through Art — Jeanne and Emeliane — have the opportunity to travel to the Czech Republic to represent Rwanda and our organization at the AfrOstrava Festival (14–15 August 2026).

For both of them, this would be a life-changing experience. It will be their first time traveling to Europe, sharing their story, their talent, and showing the world what women with disabilities in Rwanda can achieve.

Placide accompanied Jeanne and Emi to Nairobi for their visa appointment, making sure they did not have to travel alone and that everything went smoothly during the long 22-hour bus journey from Kigali.

To make this possible, we still need your help.

We have prepared a transparent budget for this journey:

• Schengen visas: $180
• Travel to Nairobi (visa process): $300
• Accommodation, food & transport in Nairobi (3 days): $800
• Flights to the Czech Republic (2 return tickets): $3,534
• Expenses in the Czech Republic: $2,000

Total: $6,814

Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to making this dream come true.

Emeliane and Jeanne after their interview at the Czech Embassy in Nairobi, sharing a well-deserved lunch with Placide and Petr’s friends Flavia and Mwaura.

We are deeply grateful for Mwaura’s kindness—he guided them around the city and generously hosted them in his home, making their stay in Nairobi much easier and safer.

We also want to thank everyone who has already supported this journey with small but meaningful donations. It truly makes a difference, and we appreciate every single contribution.

We are still far from what is needed for Jeanne and Emmi’s journey to the Czech Republic, and any support—big or small—will help turn this opportunity into reality. If you would like to be part of this experience, please reach out or donate.

A special moment today as well: our Ambassador Nicol Adamsová took time to meet the girls at the Embassy and support them on this important step.

Enjoy your lunch, enjoy Nairobi:)

Emmi and her incredible 3D woven giraffe masterpiece 🦒✨
Two male giraffes measuring each other before a fight! Yes—male giraffes really do fight in the wild, mainly to establish dominance and win mating rights. They use a behavior called “necking,” swinging their long necks like clubs and striking each other with their heavy, ossicone-covered heads. These battles can be surprisingly intense and sometimes even dangerous.
But don’t worry—our woven giraffes are peaceful and only here to bring beauty and art to your home 😊
