Centre Marembo

Centre Marembo Centre Marembo was founded by three young women who have dedicated their time to improving the lives of children who lack essential resources.

Centre Marembo was founded on May 28th 2003 by 3 women who wanted to take action for the children suffering on the streets of Kigali. Unfortunately, after 4 months of operation, the Centre was overwhelmed. The founders of Marembo were no longer able to care for the needs of the girls in their shelter due to financial restraints and the added vulnerability that caring for the girls created. For 6 y

ears, the centre focused it’s efforts exclusively on the reintegration of street boys into society. In 2012, the centre was able to generate enough financial resources to accomplish it’s decade long dream of reopening it’s shelter for girls. The boys at the shelter still continue to receive coaching at our centre however they have been relocated to other organizations in Kigali. The staff, volunteers and girls at our centre are very excited to begin this new journey and we hope that you will follow and support our endeavors!

Since Sept 2024, over 30 kids (ages 2–6) are enrolled at our Gikondo ECD Center! It offers a safe, educational space so parents can work, attend workshops, or get vocational training.
