Every person living with sickle cell disease deserves to be heard, supported and able to access the care they need. 🩸

Rwanda NCD Alliance has officially launched a nationwide advocacy and awareness campaign on sickle cell disease, engaging the media to educate communities and drive collective action.

We are working to:
✅ Challenge myths and address stigma.
✅ Champion newborn screening and timely diagnosis.
✅ Advocate for accessible treatment and compassionate, equitable care.

Children and adults living with sickle cell disease, alongside their families and caregivers, deserve sustained attention and support.

Together, media professionals, policymakers, healthcare providers and communities can help turn awareness into action across Rwanda.

❤️ DON’T MISS A BEAT!

Speaking on Rwanda Rwanda TV news bulletin today, Prof. Joseph MUCUMBITSI, Chairperson of Rwanda NCD Alliance and President of Rwanda Heart Organization, discussed World Heart Day celebrations in Rwanda and the progress made in treating cardiovascular diseases in the country.

This World Heart Day 2026, the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat” reminds us to give our hearts the attention they deserve and make heart health a priority every day.

His key message: “Know your numbers.” 🩺

Do you know your:
🔴 Blood pressure (BP)?
🩸 Blood sugar levels?
💛 Cholesterol levels?
⚖️ Body mass index (BMI)?
📏 Waist circumference?

Knowing your numbers is a starting point. Understanding them matters too! Speak with a healthcare professional about your results and the steps you can take to protect your heart.

As we celebrate Rwanda’s progress in cardiovascular care, let’s keep prevention and awareness at the centre of our families, workplaces, and communities.

❤️ Make time for your heart.
🤝 Encourage someone you love to get checked.
📲 Share this reminder—heart health deserves attention beyond today.

Every heartbeat matters. Know your numbers. Take action. Don’t miss a beat!

❤️ DON’T MISS A BEAT!

Today, 29 September, we mark World Heart Day 2026! Rwanda NCD Alliance and Rwanda Heart Organization unite to remind you: every heartbeat counts.

Taking care of your heart starts with everyday actions:

🍎 Eat more fruits and vegetables, and reduce salt.
🏃🏽‍♀️ Move more—walk, cycle, dance, or choose an activity you enjoy.
🚭 Avoid to***co and second-hand smoke.
🥃 Reduce or avoid alcohol.
🩺 Know your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels, and follow prescribed treatment.

Don’t wait until you feel unwell to know your risk. Make time for a health check and encourage someone you love to do the same. ❤️

Together, let’s make heart health a priority—today and every day.

💬 What step are you taking for your heart today?

We are pleased to share that our Executive Director, Alphonse Boman Mbarushimana , is participating in the Partnership for Healthy Cities Regional Workshop on Strengthening the Implementation of NCD Prevention Policies, taking place in Kigali, Rwanda 🇷🇼 from 15–17 September 2026.

The workshop brings together representatives from 13 African cities to exchange experiences and explore practical ways to implement, enforce and sustain policies that prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries.

🗣️ Mr. Alphonse Boman Mbarushimana emphasized the need to move beyond awareness and invest in policies, systems and infrastructure that create healthier environments:

“Our main part is to advocate for availability of policy and infrastructure that are protecting people from getting non-communicable diseases.”

🚶🏾‍♀️🚴🏾‍♂️🌳 From active mobility and healthier public spaces to air-quality monitoring and safer urban infrastructure, the message is clear: NCD prevention starts not only in health facilities, but also in the environments where people live, work and move.

Together, let’s turn commitments into action and build healthier cities for everyone. 💙
