For the First Time – IAHR Africa Congress is Coming to Kigali!

We are thrilled to announce that the 7th Africa Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research will be hosted in Kigali, Rwanda for the very first time.

Jointly organized by IAHR, Water Partnership Rwanda, University of Rwanda – College of Science and Technology, and Rwanda Young Water Professional, this landmark event will bring together Africa’s leading water experts, researchers, engineers, policymakers, and young professionals.

Under the theme “Water Resilience and Innovation,” the Congress will serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and forward-thinking solutions to Africa’s water challenges.

As co-organizers, we are incredibly excited to welcome the African and global water community to Kigali and to showcase the continent’s progress in water resilience and innovation.

This week’s Urban & Peri-Urban NbS Forum reminded us why youth must be part of the conversation. They didn’t just attend; they shared ideas, challenged perspectives, and helped shape discussions, bringing fresh insights and energy that made solutions more inclusive, practical, and forward-looking.

Yesterday felt different.
Rwanda Young Water Professional led a session on Green Job Creation & Youth Engagement during the Forum on Urban and Peri-Urban Nature-Based Solutions.

We explored how nature-based solutions (NbS) are more than just restoring ecosystems, they create jobs, build skills, and open doors for young people and women. From designing green spaces to launching climate-smart enterprises, the NbS value chain is full of opportunities for youth-led innovation and local entrepreneurship.

Grateful to GGGI, Enabel, and the City of Kigali for contributing to this important dialogue.
