Today, VVOB team, led by our General Director Sven Rooms and Country Programmes Manager for VVOB in Rwanda, Nuria Moreno, had a fruitful meeting with the Director General of the Rwanda Basic Education Board and their team. They were joined by Chantal Kabanda Dusabe, Technical Lead for the African Centre for School Leadership.
Key discussion points included:
- Progress of the LEAD Programme: Updates on VVOB’s five-year Learning through Assessment and Data (LEAD) programme, which strengthens school leaders’ capacity to address challenges like repetition, dropout rates, and equity gaps through data-driven leadership.
- Operationalisation of the new Teacher Statute: This policy reform formalises teachers’ and school leaders’ rights and obligations to engage in professional development.
- Scaling CPD: In line with the new Teacher Statute and the recently approved Teacher Development and Management policy to scale up continuous professional development ( ) for in-service and aspiring school leaders to be eligible for school leadership licensing.
- ACSL expansion: Transitioning the African Centre for School Leadership (ACSL) from its foundation phase to the implementation phase in Tanzania, Malawi, Liberia, and Sierra Leone with the support of the Mastercard Foundation.
- Phasing out IT’S PLAY: Reflections on the IT’S PLAY project (2021–2025), implemented in Rwanda, Zambia and Uganda with the support of The LEGO Foundation. Opportunities to scale the project in additional districts are being explored.
