On 27 August 2026, TLC’s Bigogwe Children’s Peace Library brought together 168 children, 12 parents, and 2 local leaders for a special gathering celebrating young peacebuilders and peer mediators.
The children shared their mediation experiences and demonstrated peaceful conflict resolution through plays, songs, dances, games, and storytelling. Parents and local leaders also recognized the library’s positive impact in helping children develop communication, listening, problem-solving, and peacebuilding skills. Aligned with the International Day of Peace theme, “Invest in Peace, for Everyone, Everywhere,” the gathering encouraged children to carry the values of peace, dialogue, empathy, and reconciliation into their schools, families, and communities. TLC provided notebooks and pens to participants, encouraging them to document their own stories of peace and continue growing as ambassadors of peace.

On 22-23 August 2026, TLC Rwanda conducted an Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) Advanced Training in Kicukiro, Kigali, bringing together 13 participants from different churches in Rwanda. The two-day training deepened participants’ skills in peaceful conflict transformation, nonviolent communication, active listening, forgiveness, cooperation, and healthy relationships. Through practical exercises, role-plays, group discussions, and reflection, participants were encouraged to become agents of peace and nonviolence in their families, churches, and communities. Peer Mediation training is one of the Children’s Peace Library Programs of TLC, designed to equip them with practical skills for preventing and resolving conflicts among their peers.
The 25children from Bigogwe Children's Peace Library were excited to learn how they can solve conflicts themselves through dialogue and peaceful discussion, without always depending on adult intervention. The training created a positive and inspiring experience for both the children and the wider library community.
Through peer mediation, children are developing important skills in communication, dialogue, discussion, cooperation, relationship-building, and peaceful conflict resolution. These skills are also benefiting the schools where the children study, helping to promote a culture of peace within their school communities.
“ NIYOGAKIZA Solange shared with us how she benefited from the workshop: I learned how to get along well with others and how to avoid conflicts. There was a time I had a conflict with my friend at school, and I became afraid to return to school after a problem happened, and our parents and school leaders came to help resolve it. Today, I am happy because I now have the skills of how I can help my peers to resolve conflicts peacefully.”
The goal is not only to help children solve conflicts today, but also to empower and prepare the next generation of peace makers who can promote understanding, protect one another, and build stronger and more peaceful communities. Empowering children today, building peace for tomorrow!

On August 11, 2026, Musanze Children’s Peace Library brought together 64 children who have participated in peace training over the years to reflect on their learning and share how they are applying peacebuilding, conflict-resolution, and peer-mediation skills in their schools, families, and communities. Through testimonies, drawings, poems, and songs, the children demonstrated their commitment to promoting peaceful relationships and resolving conflicts among their peers, showing that peace education is creating active young agents of positive change and responsible future leaders.

Last week, July 28- 31, 2026, Transformational Leadership Center (TLC) Rwanda conducted comprehensive situation assessments across the sectors of Miyove, Nyankenke Rutare, and Manyagiro in Gicumbi District. These assessments are helping us better understand the needs, challenges, and opportunities within local communities. During July 2026, the Transformational Leadership Center (TLC), through the Children's Peace Libraries of Rwanda, conducted Peer Mediation workshops in Gicumbi, Musanze, Bugesera, and the new Nonko Children's Peace Library.

A total of 175children, aged 8 to 14 years, participated in the training. The workshops equipped children with practical knowledge and skills to peacefully resolve conflicts among their peers.

Participants learned about the meaning, causes, and effects of conflict; the difference between violence and nonviolence using the Peace Tree and Conflict Tree; understanding anger, recognizing its signs, and healthy ways to manage it; and peer mediation skills for peaceful conflict resolution.

The main goal of the training was to empower children with the confidence and skills to resolve conflicts independently while supporting their peers without always relying on adults. Through interactive activities, group discussions, role-playing, and practical exercises, the children discovered that they can become effective mediators and peacebuilders in their schools and communities.

At the end of the workshops, many children expressed their commitment to promoting peace by helping others resolve conflicts through mediation. They pledged to be role models for peaceful living and to spread the values of dialogue, respect, understanding, and nonviolence wherever they go.

These workshops are helping to nurture a new generation of young leaders dedicated to building peaceful schools, stronger families, and more harmonious communities across Rwanda.

From 8th to 10th July 2026, TLC-Rwanda participated in the Gicumbi District Open Day as one of the district's development partners. The event brought together government institutions, organizations, the private sector, and community members to promote sustainable development and knowledge sharing.

During the event, TLC-Rwanda showcased its key programs, including Children's Peace Libraries, Conservation Agriculture, Nutrition and Clean Water, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), and Farmers' Learning and Exchange. Visitors learned how these initiatives promote literacy, strengthen food security, improve nutrition and access to safe water, build household financial resilience, and support sustainable livelihoods. TLC-Rwanda Executive Director Bucura David also engaged visitors on the importance of Conservation Agriculture in building resilient farming systems.

The Mayor of Gicumbi District visited the TLC-Rwanda exhibition to learn more about the organization's community impact. In recognition of its active participation, TLC-Rwanda received a Certificate of Appreciation from Gicumbi District.

From May 22-23, 2026, the Transformational Leadership Center (TLC) successfully conducted the Alternative to Violence Project (AVP). the Training held in Kicukiro, Kigali, bringing together 15 participants committed to becoming peacebuilders in their communities.
During the training, participants gained valuable skills in peaceful conflict resolution, nonviolence, community building, self-confidence, positive coexistence, and the power of personal transformation. The sessions created a safe and inspiring environment for learning, reflection, and personal growth.
Participants shared powerful testimonies about how the training challenged them to change their attitudes and become agents of peace in their families, churches, workplaces, and communities.
Change begins with me.

Last week, Transformational Leadership Center had the privilege of hosting a consultative meeting with representatives from Mennonite Central Committee Rwanda/Burundi together with other MCC Rwanda staff to reflect on the journey of the Children’s Peace Libraries (CPLs) and the impact they continue to make in the lives of children.

The meeting created a meaningful space to look back on the work that has been done over the years, share lessons learned, and discuss the findings from TLC’s recent assessment on how CPLs are positively influencing children and communities. Conversations also focused on new and innovative ideas, partner recommendations, and strategic opportunities for strengthening and expanding the Children’s Peace Libraries initiative.

It was encouraging to hear reflections on how the libraries continue to help children grow in peacebuilding, creativity, confidence, learning, and healthy relationships with others.

We are grateful for the continued partnership, support, and shared vision of creating safer and more peaceful spaces where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

On Friday, May 22, 2026, the Coordinator Habanabakize Thomas from MCC Rwanda visited TLC Farmer Field Schools (FFS) across Gicumbi District, including Mutete, Nyamiyaga, Rukomo, and Kageyo sectors. The visit aimed to engage with farmers, assess project progress, and discuss the impact of Conservation Agriculture (CA) in their household.
Farmers appreciated TLC for introducing the project in their villages, highlighting improvements in household livelihoods through increased agricultural production and reduced farming costs. Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) have also strengthened financial among members.
During the discussions, farmers shared remaining needs such as improving mulching practices, access to water tanks for kitchen gardens, and livestock for manure production. Climate change was identified as a major challenge affecting agricultural productivity.
MCC Rwanda appreciated the organization of the field activities and encouraged TLC to continue implementing the project successfully.
