On September 21, 2026, Transformational Leadership Center (TLC), through the Children’s Peace Libraries, joined communities around the world in celebrating the International Day of Peace under the theme “Invest in Peace, For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.” Children from the Kigali, Musanze, Burera, Gicumbi, Rubavu (Bigogwe & Kanzenze), and other Children’s Peace Libraries participated in activities promoting peace, unity, kindness, and respect. Through theatre, poetry, traditional dances, songs, and spoken messages, the children expressed their understanding of peace and shared messages encouraging peaceful relationships within families, schools, and communities. The celebration brought together children, parents, teachers, TLC leaders, and local government representatives, highlighting the importance of collective action in building a culture of peace.
The celebration reaffirmed TLC’s commitment to peace education and child-focused peacebuilding through the Rwanda Children’s Peace Libraries. By creating opportunities for children to learn, express themselves, engage in dialogue, and develop values such as empathy, respect, cooperation, and peaceful conflict resolution, TLC contributes to nurturing responsible citizens and future peacebuilders. The theme, “Invest in Peace, For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” served as a powerful reminder that peace requires continuous investment through our daily actions, relationships, and communities. TLC appreciates all the children, parents, teachers, local leaders, partners, and other stakeholders who contributed to the celebration and continue to support efforts to build peaceful and resilient communities across Rwanda.

A good book can open a child’s mind to new ideas, new possibilities, and a better understanding of the world. At TLC-Rwanda, we believe that reading can do even more. It can help nurture curiosity, empathy, critical thinking, and the values needed to build peaceful communities.
Last week, the Transformational Leadership Center (TLC-Rwanda) distributed a collection of generously donated books to Children’s Peace Libraries across Rwanda, including libraries in Kicukiro, Gicumbi, Rubavu (Bigogwe), Bugesera (Musovu), Burera, and other locations.
The books were donated by Kigali Public Library to expand children’s access to reading materials and strengthen a culture of reading within the communities where TLC operates. For children visiting our Children’s Peace Libraries, these books offer opportunities to read, discover, learn, imagine, and explore new ideas. They also complement TLC’s peace education activities by creating spaces where children can develop knowledge, empathy, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for peaceful coexistence.
Through the Children’s Peace Libraries, TLC continues to promote reading not only as a learning activity, but also as a pathway toward raising informed, confident, responsible, and peace-minded young people. TLC-Rwanda sincerely thanks the Kigali Public Library for this valuable contribution and for investing in children and their future.
Together, we can put more books into children’s hands, strengthen a culture of reading, and nurture a generation that chooses knowledge, empathy, and peace.

From 6-9 September 2026, the Transformational Leadership Center (TLC- Rwanda) participated in the SCAN Regional Technology Symposium 2026, held in Kigali, Rwanda, at Gorilla Golf Hotel. Held under the theme “Practical Technology Solutions for Community Impact, Learning and Regional Collaboration,” the symposium brought together MCC partner organizations and technology practitioners from across the region to share experiences, explore practical technology solutions, and strengthen regional collaboration.
For TLC Rwanda, the gathering provided an important opportunity to reflect on how digital technology can strengthen peace education and learning for children through Children’s Peace Libraries. TLC is exploring ways to combine digital learning resources with peace education, helping children access educational materials while developing values such as respect, empathy, dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful problem-solving.
Through the Digital Peacebuilding Initiative, TLC envisions Children’s Peace Libraries becoming more than places for reading. They can grow into digital learning and peacebuilding hubs, where children read, learn, explore ideas, develop digital literacy, and build a culture of peace from an early age.
The symposium also strengthened regional learning and collaboration, bringing together participants from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Malawi, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. TLC valued the opportunity to listen, learn from partners, share experiences, build relationships, and explore possibilities for future collaboration.

On Monday, August 31, 2026, the Transformational Leadership Center (TLC Rwanda) had the pleasure of welcoming Mgcini Ngwenya from Zimbabwe, a volunteer sent by the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC Rwanda/Burundi), to the TLC office.
We are delighted to welcome Mgcini to the TLC Rwanda family and begin this new journey of learning, capacity building, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
This new volunteer partnership represents an important step toward strengthening relationships, sharing experiences, and working together to support communities and contribute to positive and sustainable transformation in Rwanda. On 27 August 2026, TLC’s Bigogwe Children’s Peace Library brought together 168 children, 12 parents, and 2 local leaders for a special gathering celebrating young peacebuilders and peer mediators.
The children shared their mediation experiences and demonstrated peaceful conflict resolution through plays, songs, dances, games, and storytelling. Parents and local leaders also recognized the library’s positive impact in helping children develop communication, listening, problem-solving, and peacebuilding skills. Aligned with the International Day of Peace theme, “Invest in Peace, for Everyone, Everywhere,” the gathering encouraged children to carry the values of peace, dialogue, empathy, and reconciliation into their schools, families, and communities. TLC provided notebooks and pens to participants, encouraging them to document their own stories of peace and continue growing as ambassadors of peace.

On 22-23 August 2026, TLC Rwanda conducted an Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) Advanced Training in Kicukiro, Kigali, bringing together 13 participants from different churches in Rwanda. The two-day training deepened participants’ skills in peaceful conflict transformation, nonviolent communication, active listening, forgiveness, cooperation, and healthy relationships. Through practical exercises, role-plays, group discussions, and reflection, participants were encouraged to become agents of peace and nonviolence in their families, churches, and communities. Peer Mediation training is one of the Children’s Peace Library Programs of TLC, designed to equip them with practical skills for preventing and resolving conflicts among their peers.
The 25children from Bigogwe Children's Peace Library were excited to learn how they can solve conflicts themselves through dialogue and peaceful discussion, without always depending on adult intervention. The training created a positive and inspiring experience for both the children and the wider library community.
Through peer mediation, children are developing important skills in communication, dialogue, discussion, cooperation, relationship-building, and peaceful conflict resolution. These skills are also benefiting the schools where the children study, helping to promote a culture of peace within their school communities.
“ NIYOGAKIZA Solange shared with us how she benefited from the workshop: I learned how to get along well with others and how to avoid conflicts. There was a time I had a conflict with my friend at school, and I became afraid to return to school after a problem happened, and our parents and school leaders came to help resolve it. Today, I am happy because I now have the skills of how I can help my peers to resolve conflicts peacefully.”
The goal is not only to help children solve conflicts today, but also to empower and prepare the next generation of peace makers who can promote understanding, protect one another, and build stronger and more peaceful communities. Empowering children today, building peace for tomorrow!

On August 11, 2026, Musanze Children’s Peace Library brought together 64 children who have participated in peace training over the years to reflect on their learning and share how they are applying peacebuilding, conflict-resolution, and peer-mediation skills in their schools, families, and communities. Through testimonies, drawings, poems, and songs, the children demonstrated their commitment to promoting peaceful relationships and resolving conflicts among their peers, showing that peace education is creating active young agents of positive change and responsible future leaders.
