Last week at Kigali Children’s Peace Library, we held a variety of engaging programs focused on promoting a culture of reading and peace literacy.Children participated in both book reading and digital reading activities. Through digital reading, learners in Grades 2 and 3 read books on TV screen while building their vocabulary. A total of 44 children took part in the reading sessions, including 24 boys and 20 girls. We also gathered as a Peace Club and held a lively debate on how respect creates peace at school. The key lesson was that everyone deserves respect-regardless of age-and that respecting one another helps prevent conflicts and strengthens love and unity among students. The session ended with fun games that reinforced these peace values. The Peace Club currently includes 18 boys and 12 girls.
All activities continue to focus on nurturing a strong culture of reading and peace literacy among children

Transformational Leadership Center through the Kigali children’s peace library recently held a three-day Peer Mediation Training to empower children with skills for peaceful conflict resolution
Participants explored the causes of conflict, the role of emotions like anger, and how disagreements can affect relationships and learning. They learned peaceful communication techniques, including “I and You” messages and active listening, to resolve conflicts respectfully
Through interactive activities and the Tree of Violence & Tree of Peace exercises, children identified behaviors that escalate conflicts versus those that promote empathy and cooperation. They also practiced real-life mediation, developing qualities of fairness, patience, and confidentiality.
By the end of the training, children were equipped to mediate conflicts, promote dialogue, and contribute to a culture of peace in their schools and communities -Rwanda

The Burera Children’s Peace Library is one of TLC Rwanda’s libraries. The library continues to attract many children living around the library hub.
The librarian, Gentille, is always happy to assist children in reading and exploring books through the digital library. She shared that the number of children visiting the library has increased compared to before the introduction of the digital library, as children now find it easier to access and search for books digitally than only using the physical library.
Through this initiative, we continue to build a strong culture of reading, promote peace literacy, and support learning among children and youth in the region
